Resistance is linearly proportional to the distance between the contact and an end terminal. If you measure the resistance at its furthest distance, then another distance, you can linearly interpolate the data so that each resistance correlates exactly to a level of compression

Re: What have you done to your car lately?

Ain you just make everything confusing. Haha...

    For us simpletons...

A potentiometer just measures the resistance. There are linear (length) and the rotary/circular ones that Ain mentioned...

I was talking about a linear potentiometer.

Basically in super simple terms, it'll record spring travel as the more it's crushed, the less resistance there will be. So you graph resistance, and it will tell you how much you squatted through corners.

beg you pardon??? Yes it is a rotary pot, they come in many other variations too but in our industry they come as either linear or logarithmic, referring to the amount of resistance caused by the movement of the shaft. Most older amps & tv's ( before microprocessor control ) used log pots as a volume control!!!
and oh yeah i worked for altronics in 1989-91 in the retail store and 94-96 as the w.a. rep
i also worked for tandy in 91-92 and again in 1998-2000 and both companies sold linear and logarithmic pots.

So, I drove my car today....
Sure, we dont have to worry about viking raids or scurvy anymore, but instead we make a daily routine of sitting in flimsy, fibreglass (or metal) boxes full of gasoline which are propelled in opposing directions on the freeway at velocities matching that of low flying aircraft.

This is a roundabout way of saying that cars are dangerous....

Me too... Coming from work it was ~35 degrees. Didn't realise how much turbos hated the warm weather...
