Wow, can't believe they pushing you back. Have you tried another dealer and explain your concerns ? The local dealer here was pretty good and they have been replacing them on all sorts of cars not just the latest ones !
Getting absolutely fed up with the lack of urgency from Holden on this.
50 units is laughable given how many people are driving ticking timebombs. Other manufacturers have almost completed their rollouts.
They have (for like the 4th time now), pushed back the rollout date where they start replacing these airbags, now back to June 2019.
As they are NOT Alpha inflators used, they are not required by government to have them replaced in 05-09 Astras by the Dec 2020 deadline.
Holden have claimed every single time the delay (which has been ongoing since early 2018) is due to parts avaiability, however I have been told the parts are identical to those used in current Astras (i.e the parts have not changed since AH 2005). Hence parts availability isn't the issue.
I firmly believe Holden are delaying replacement as all Astras yet to have them actioned are out of dealer warranty, and they are hoping more and more are written off to lower the number they need to replace.
Meanwhile anyone owning such a vehicle just need hope and pray they don't cop a fatal airbag blow to the face.
Nice that Holden has so much concern for their customers.
This will be my last Holden as a result.

Dealers (I've spoken with a few) just refer back to Holden "We don't know when we are getting parts as it's all beind handled by Holden Australia". Holden Australia replying as per above and claiming lack of parts.
The newer models are being done at the moment apparently.

The one and only thing that I absolutely hate about my Insignia and I am the first to say it's better than the 5 series m sport pak I replaced...I love this car...
But the think that makes me want to sell it is.......HOLDEN DEALERS.
I feel your pain. I've got a local euro specialist who services my car now and they are absolutely brilliant. Seen them grow from a single hoist 2 man workshop to an 8 hoist / 20 employee odd well respected workshop.
I asked Holden if they could simply get the part and I'll have my preferred mechanic replace it, but Holden stated it must be done by a dealership ... which is superb as every.darn.time the dealers have touched my car, they've stuffed something up.
So my airbag replacement will not be done at local dealers but rather one about an hours drive away!

What's interesting to note about the AH Astra airbag replacements, is they say from 2005-on. AH Astras rolled out in 2004 and those earlier ones don't need the airbag replaced, as my parents are the owners of a 2004 Astra AH CDX.
But I'd be willing to bet this kind of behaviour isn't just limited to Holden. I know with some BMWs, they've had airbags replaced and have then to have had it done it again, because the new airbags were just the same ones they had already replaced.

Equally strange is that my wife has one of the last TS Astras off the production line (2005 TS Classic), which was that late off the production line it got some goodies from the parts pin at the time.
Yet it's not impacted by the recall.
So somewhere from 2004-2005 Opel must have changed from ??? to a Takata airbag (or changed Takata models).

I know the earlier airbags are made by Siemens, maybe they changed to takata at that point

One thing I know is, neither my 2018 Ford Transit Custom, 2009 VE Commodore SS or 2001 Barina are affected by this recall. Plus, it won't be long and the latter won't require an airbag anyway, haha.

Mine got done a few days ago at the nearest dealer. Very happy with it all. First appointment was available the next day and took less than 30 minutes. The whole thing was one unit including the cover and was a straightforward fit. I was worried about it not being fit properly or something rattling or them driving my car but no issues. They did it in the parking lot and never drove the car.
Take care,
Haroon
