So I'm looking at an exhaust for my VXR and I've been shown how little I know..

What is the difference between catback and turbo back apart from needing to have it tuned? Also, what does a large bore down pipe and hi-flow sports cat do?

Any advice would be fantastic, especially from personal experience! Thanks!

Turbo back is an exhaust that literally starts straight off your turbo, cat back is from your catalytic converters

Down pipe wise the bigger it is the less restriction believe the turbo outlet is 3" and thats what most people go with,
The smaller the cell number the less exhaust gas gets caught but generally speaking allows more flow and better performance with the right system
Depending on how far performance wise you wanna go, go a 3" downpipe with a 2.5" catback 200cell highflow cat for stage 2-3, 3" turbo back 200cell highflow cat if you wanna go beyond stage 3.

So a 3" down pipe and 2.5" catback? Where does the down pipe start and end?

Downpipe is straight off the turbo and ends at your flexi joint,

Has the first o2 sensor in it

Sweet! So what's the difference between a catback exhaust and bigger down pipe, compared to a turbo back exhaust?

Oh I see Click here to enlarge cheers man. At least I know what I'm asking for when I take it in.

So if you get the bigger down pipe, it needs the stage 2 tune?

Don't need to remap the car just because you changed the exhaust. After going a custom exhaust for my car and running into issues with the downpipe not clamping properly I would suggest an off the shelf downpipe from the UK and then get the rest of the exhaust made here.
