seems a bit strange they'd bring back the Astra J when its due to be replaced at the same time in Europe.

The promo shot with the Astra, Cascada and Insignia is quite nice. The Insignia rims don't look mean enough - needs the OPC wheels. Maybe the new Astra 5-door hatch will make an appearance when local Cruze manufacturing stops in 2017.
Would be neat if the factory left the Opel-badged airbag covers on. The factory would likely use the Vauxhall version (no Opel 'flash' sticking out on the sides of the circle) and slap a Holden badge on it. Someone on CarAdvice jokingly suggested the Holden badges were applied here. Doesn't it leave the Opel factory complete with Holden badges? Holden probably does the same with Chevrolet models destined for the US.
The Cruze is destined to be replaced in the next year or so and I'm sure when that happens, local production for the Cruze will stop, meaning Holding would only be churning out Commodores until 2017. There'd be no point re-tooling the assembly line for one or two years production, so they'd start the wind down process I believe.
I believe Holden is best at slapping their own moniker on whatever they sell. When you look at the Astra H VXR, HSV just added their badges to the wheels, plus the front and rear of the car. The dash still has OPC stamped on it and the steering wheel I think has the Blitz on it too and the VXR badge is pretty much Vauxhall. With Holden's export models, they leave the factory with full Chevrolet badging. As a resident in the Elizabeth area, it's not uncommon to drive down Salisbury Highway with car carriers loaded with Chevrolet badged LHD export models, even with 18" steelies on. But then the way the knobs around here put Chev badges on their Commodores, you'd swear the Lion badge was dead years ago anyway.

Great, so we could see the Astra 5-door sooner rather than later. With a Holden badge it will probably sell well.
We see plenty of 'dores with Chevrolet badges up here too. But those drivers seem to have a problem with Euro-sourced Holdens showing Opel badges. Quite amusing.
If Holden has a stockpile of discarded Opel airbag covers in a warehouse somewhere I want one for my Astra H.
Great news!!
For resale, servicing, warranty and Astra/Insignia nameplate.
Maybe the Opel badging will be worth more?
