Sure, we dont have to worry about viking raids or scurvy anymore, but instead we make a daily routine of sitting in flimsy, fibreglass (or metal) boxes full of gasoline which are propelled in opposing directions on the freeway at velocities matching that of low flying aircraft.
This is a roundabout way of saying that cars are dangerous....
conventional auto can be just as good in terms of shifts and response as a DSG - just needs the torque converter to be locked up all the time - like the new Mazda Skyactiv auto trannys. Or look at Mercedes with their torque converter manual they've developed which I think the reasoning behind that is you don't get the jerkiness at low speeds that seems to affect VW DSG's.
