Oh, come on, that Yamaha's sub-woofer is a toy compared to Logitech's Plus as poita said, you need more room for gear, too. The Z has all speakers wired to the sub-woofer, all you need on the desk is the controller.
I agree these are not the best speakers in the Universe, but at $400 you won't find anything as good. I would dare saying you need to spend well over $1,000 to get something significantly better.
