No kidding..!!!!!!
Actually routing to the ip address doesnt seem to be the issue as I've got acceptable pings to the servers in the USA:
Comparing that to A-S where I get a ping of 700ms+. I think its definitely something server-side. Anything different there? I do get occasional XML errors. curiouser and curiouser.Code:pathping www.opelaus.com Tracing route to opelaus.com [67.15.20.17] over a maximum of 30 hops: 0 muriakiel [192.168.1.10] 1 my.router [192.168.1.1] 2 loop0.lns2.adl2.internode.on.net [203.16.215.224] 3 gi0-2-8.cor1.adl2.internode.on.net [203.16.212.161] 4 gi0-3.bdr2.adl2.internode.on.net [203.16.212.145] 5 pos2-0.bdr1.syd7.agile.on.net [203.16.212.33] 6 pos1-0.bdr1.sjc2.agile.on.net [203.16.213.17] 7 ge-0-3-0.r01.snjsca04.us.bb.verio.net [129.250.11.97] 8 p16-0-1-1.r20.snjsca04.us.bb.verio.net [129.250.2.118] 9 p64-0-0-0.r20.plalca01.us.bb.verio.net [129.250.2.70] 10 xe-0-2-0.r21.plalca01.us.bb.verio.net [129.250.4.231] 11 p16-3-0-0.r02.hstntx01.us.bb.verio.net [129.250.2.2] 12 ge-7.ev1.hstntx01.us.bb.verio.net [129.250.10.230] 13 gphou-66-98-241-29.ev1.net [66.98.241.29] 14 gphou-66-98-241-29.ev1.net [66.98.241.124] 15 gphou-66-98-241-29.ev1.net [67.15.20.17] Computing statistics for 375 seconds... No kidding..!!!!!!
Yeah its slow..
I'm on Westnet 256k ADSL..
It could be an SQL database issue.. if your database is large and bulky then it would slow things down as the pages are requested the right things have to be loaded from the database.
do you have GZIP or anything like that turned on for the forum? - this could also slow things down...
I've got a webserver at work I have unlimited access to, if you wanna do a backup of your database and send it to me, I'll setup a forum on my server using the OpelAus database and I can then tell you if its slow to access - if it is then that tells you what your problem is, then you'll just have to optimise it.
Damo.
The db is gzipped. I have pruned about 10 meg off it. The backup is 20 meg. I have optimised it. This issue cropped up a couple of months ago even before I changed the look. Some testing I have done shows that speed is crap even on my homepage which is held on the same server and is only html with no sql. I doubt it is sql related.
I am hearing issues with other USA based sites, which leads me to believe the issue is with one of the links to the USA. This has been mentioned before. Links using Singtel are experiencing severe issues. We are getting large packetloss on Singtel links.

I am currently doing some testing on another server to isolate issues. Thanks for the offer.
Edit... Kinda looks as though I was wrong.

Whoompa! And the latency issues have gone! Sweet! Glad you got it sorted mate. Congrats.
haha, i'm using gprs to access the net, and it's fast even with this!!! (using it as a modem while away!)... It's much nicer looking too... never a fan of the portal!

Thanks Aaron for all your work in helping isolate the problem. you've been a champion..!!!
Now all I need is a serious injection of caffene after spending all weekend getting this all up and fixed.
