V6 Veccy B rocker cover oil leak

Hi all. I am after some advice on an oil leak on the Vectra. I am preparing to sell and trying to determine to sell with RWC (vic) or as-is unregistered.
I have a mechanic who services my Skoda who isn't interested in touching the Vectra. He thinks it's a labour intensive job and said about $800 in labour alone.
Has anyone here attempted to change the rocker gaskets? Is it a massive job? My other question is are there any mechanics in Melbourne familiar enough with the 2.6 motor who would have the gear taken off top and gaskets replaced on no time at all? Besides the oil leak, just a few front end bushes and the Veccy is as good as gold. Thanks in advance!

If you're after a mechanic to do the job, possibly look for someone who specialises in Saabs. Pretty much all Saab V6s are based on the Opel/Vauxhall units. They might not like to admit it, but the truth is they are and the 900/9-3 was based on the same platform as the Vectra.

I think the biggest issue is that the intake manifold pretty much has to come off and from what I've seen, on the Y26SE and the succeeding Z32SE engines, that doesn't look like a 5 minute job.

I thought that with the SAAB as well but I was unser the impression it was the 2.5l v6 used in the 900... and the 2.6l was used only in the Vectra, Omega and the euro Cadillac.

I think I'll ring around and see if any mechanics are interested in the job. At least get a price so I know what I'm in for to sell it with a RWC.

I guess that is an option as well... Get a few mechanically minded mates around over a couple of beers and start tearing it down and have a go at it myself!

essentially the same engine, the 2.6 is a bit easier to do as it doesn't have EGR and things like that

it is a pain in the ass job, especially on the rear bank as Guy said, a few hours at least for someone comfortable getting their hands dirty.

    Thanks Nuggz.

I found this PDF a while back from Vauxhall College which shows a brief how-to for pulling the intake off to get to the heads on the X25XE motor. (I'll try and attach images to this post.) It mentions detaching coolant hoses. Does this mean draining the system or as it as at the top of the motor it should be fine
