    Therostat housing sealant

What would the appropriate thermostat housing sealant be for a TS Astra .Manual says no gasket so use a sealant. Would ordinary silicon sealant be ok

There should be a gasket. If not you need a fairly high temp, high pressure silicon

If I recall correctly from when I replaced my Thermostat housing it had an O-ring style seal all around.

My Haynes manual says there is no gasket but you need to use a sealant,no mention of an o ring. I might have to pull it apart first and just see what is there then chase up the bits

After a bit of checking it seems there is a seal on the housing but I have decided to replace the housing, thermostat and coolant sensor all at once but looking at a Dayco unit there appears to be an additional sensor which is mentioned somewhere as a temperature switch. Can this unit be installed with no problems, this switch is not on the unit in my Astra
