    Short Shifter Kit Questions

    Hey guys,

I've decided I'm really getting over the stock throw in the Turbs, especially when compared to the Up! which is incredibly short and just feels.... better.

I'm assuming the Mtech kit is still the way to go in terms of recommendations, is there an Aust. supplier?

Also, I'm conscious of what a few people have said re: getting an eds ipf sorting out good gearboxes from bad pretty quick - I assume if things go horribly bad you can still swap the short shifter over to a new GB.

    Cheers

there are a few indeed but in my opinion the Mtech ones are first of all pure porn and secondly they simply work. Yes, they can be transferred to another f23 as they are just bolt on. Easy to install as well which some of the others are not. Price.... yeah, slightly up there but all is forgotten when its installed.

Actually, the install on the F23 M-Tech shifter can be an absolute pain in the arse. Main thing is removing the rolled pin on the original shift mechanism, you need to use a pin punch and you need to hit the pin square, else it flares out and then you need to remove the entire shifter off the gearbox to put it in a vice or similar and belt the crap out of the pin until it pops out. Once you've got it out, yeah it's easy to install.

I actually use both short shifters, the M-Tech one which goes on top of the gearbox and the shortened shift lever inside the cabin. It takes some getting used to, but it works a treat. Plus with the shifter inside the car, the shortened one comes with a 12mm thread to screw on a gear knob of your choosing. The knob I'm using (yes, I can hear you laughing childishly) is a 475g lump of stainless steel, weighted correctly for the shortened lever assembly. As you get this particular one blank, I had an engraver engrave the gear shift pattern on it for all things legality.

Other thing I recommend to do, particularly if you fit the short shifter is to fit a poly insert to your front lower engine/gearbox mount. It'll take some of the flex out of the rearward motion of the engine, making it easy to change gears under throttle.

Maybe, or they get fat from working on a Z20LET. Oh wait, that might be something else......

I had fairly easy access to mine though, because I did mine when I was putting the engine in and I had the front of the car off.

Don't get there Chris.... fap fap
Aaanyway, back to the original question, get yourself a shortshifter either the Mtech one or any other one, you'll never want to go back to standard. I'd still go for the Mtech cause I kinda like the standard KNOB Click here to enlarge (I said KNOB hihihi) in the sri-t

You've pretty much 100% sold it to me now.

Speaking of - where is the best place to get them from? Prefer local even if it means a bit more price-wise but I don't really mind.

    Cheers

Maybe @guy 27 has his one installed, maybe can ask him to show it to you. At for the Mtech, there is no local dealer. The first groupbuy we did came down near half the original price mainly due to the amount we had ordered (I believe near 20 units). Maybe you can order some stuff with others that want/need to get some things from Europe anyway. Will save you a lot in shipping costs.

Where's a good place form the UK? Would TX Autosport have them, because if so I'll do a big order from them for solid piping and stuff.
