IIRC, when Holden were selling the Astra here in Aus, the sportier variants were not making the usual Holden profit mark-up. I'm guessing that they'll be doing the same thing with this new set of Astra's. As they're already bringing in the Insignia, then no problem just throwing a couple of the sportier Astras into the same boat.
I'm a bit sad, mine set me back $42K (including onroads), but the VXR's look to be even better value.

Not 'exactly' the same. Looks like the Holden one has tyre pressure monitors (useful IMO) and front parking sensors (useful as long as it's not raining).

Also has the MyLink multimedia system and only comes in one spec (20s, no AFL), what you see is what you get. Pick a color and thats it.

Your $42k was still good. The Holden variant is $39,990 + ORC so Victorians will end up paying closer to $50k

edit: just realised i mentioned the spec in an earlier post (cant keep track of my own shit)
On a related note (i mentioned it in the spam thread but not everyone hangs around in there):

I went into my local Holden dealer and they had a white VXR on display there. The chick there was so ditzy. I thought I would humor myself and ask what she knows about the car. In a nutshell, this is what I was told:

    - Its a 1.6 turbo
    - It is the HSV model
    - It is very different to the Opel model
    - It will come in 3 variants - The VX, the VR, and the VXR

Needless to say, she clearly did zero research before the car arrived.....

Sure, we dont have to worry about viking raids or scurvy anymore, but instead we make a daily routine of sitting in flimsy, fibreglass (or metal) boxes full of gasoline which are propelled in opposing directions on the freeway at velocities matching that of low flying aircraft.

This is a roundabout way of saying that cars are dangerous....

    What an impeccable salesperson! Haha.
Only the Cascada is at my local Holden, they're too focussed on HSVs

Ditzy chicks - love getting them to describe the cars. Are you sure she wasn't the reception girl (they don't have to know anything)? I've made that mistake before...

    hahaha i wouldnt be surprised.

Oh i forgot to also mention. she was prepared to give it to me for $40k driveaway Click here to enlarge I asked her what the driveaway cost was and she said $39,990. I told her that was the RRP minus any onroads. She started to argue with me and tell me that it was definitely $40k drive away. I swear if i was in the market i would have signed the dotted line there and then !!
