I know that Mister Minit (the little key shops they have in the shopping centres) tend to have a fairly decent range of generic transponder keys. Maybe give them a buzz and see if they have something?
Hey guys,
I recently lost my spare key for my car, and have been quoted $250 for a new one. Happy to pay it is its the only option, but my parents recently picked up a generic VW-style key for their Golf and had it encoded for under $100. Is there anything similar available for a mk5 astra?
Thanks

Sure, we dont have to worry about viking raids or scurvy anymore, but instead we make a daily routine of sitting in flimsy, fibreglass (or metal) boxes full of gasoline which are propelled in opposing directions on the freeway at velocities matching that of low flying aircraft.
This is a roundabout way of saying that cars are dangerous....
Hmmm I've tried them but they said they couldn't do it. Maybe he just couldn't be bothered haha. My brother got one made for his 1 series by them so maybe I just went to a dud

the ebay guy cutting the keys isn't around. for advanced keys you have to make an account first.
I've bought a two Astra H transponder keys now (different cars) and Advanced keys are the most reliable and cheapest.
They now cut keys to code it appears
