A co-driver has gone to ridiculous lengths to keep his car competing in Rally Argentina, sitting inside the engine bay to operate the throttle.

Rally competitions involve some pretty dangerous driving at the best of times, with competitors usually tightly strapped into their seats, within the confines of the roll cage. Sitting under the bonnet as your car tears around a dirt road is not recommended.

With competitors required to make their own way to check points for repairs, a snapped accelerator cable was always going to pose a big problem. Not for this pair, who decided that the best solution was to operate the throttle directly.

There was no limping home either. With the driver's head peering out the side window to see where he was going, the car maintained a break-neck speed.

Showing just how dedicated he was to the cause, it was the co-driver sitting on the engine, who determined just how quickly they were travelling.
