    New laptop advice

    Hey all,

My trusty old Compaq NC6400 is dying a slow horrible death (once i throw it out the window, should make that death quicker) so need advice on a new one.

All laptops look the same to me, so nerds i need your advice on the ones that are good and the ones to stay away from.

I mainly use it for internet and to download movies, shows and songs. I don't play games or anything so don't need anything set up for that.

Also need to be able to use my IPF but i can d/l XP Mode for that.

    Cheers in advance!

    Steve

With what's around you can get something pretty cheap.

    My suggested specs for you

Intel i5 , 4gb ram, 750gb hard drive and windows 7 ultimate NOT windows 8

Can go to i7 and 8gb ram for more speed if your impatient Click here to enlarge

    Re: New laptop advice

    Exactly what Pete suggested...

    BUT

Make sure it comes with Windows 7 professional or higher. That's what you need to run XP mode. if you can't get a laptop with it, you have that legitimate copy that I chased down for you that can be installed on it as a last resort.

if you are over here anytime soon I can help you shop for one if you like.
Sure, we dont have to worry about viking raids or scurvy anymore, but instead we make a daily routine of sitting in flimsy, fibreglass (or metal) boxes full of gasoline which are propelled in opposing directions on the freeway at velocities matching that of low flying aircraft.

This is a roundabout way of saying that cars are dangerous....

The $649 one... buy another 4gb stick of RAM and win7 pro and you're done.
Bloody bargain if you ask me.

I've had an i5 inspiron 15r for nearly 2 years now and it's great. The new 15r's have much better build quality as well which is a bonus.

Excellent deal and value for money the only draw back is they only read CD/DVD and can not burn to CD/DVD. My sister almost bought one but did not cause she needs to burn files to discs for her clients.
