i'd be looking at mainly putting a faster hard drive in than the 2 listed their. ideally if you can afford it go a ssd and another 7200rpm hdd.

main thing is avoid the green drives.

i'm sure others on here have much more experience with computers and will be able to give you better info but from my experience with editing thats as much as I need to know.

Personally id go for the $1195 one as it would be fine for what you need to do. The parts between the two really arent much different.

However, id ditch the wired keyboard and mouse and go for something wireless. Logitech make some pretty good wireless keyboard and mouse combos. Maybe go for a second 1tb hard drive aswell because video footage fills up the space pretty quick

Also, i didnt notice a monitor with that package, so you need to remember there will be an additional cost for that.

edit: Actually with the hard drives... look into getting an SSD (solid state drive) as the main drive for windows (they are a crapload faster and programs load a lot quicker) and get a 2tb hard drive for all of your files and videos

Sure, we dont have to worry about viking raids or scurvy anymore, but instead we make a daily routine of sitting in flimsy, fibreglass (or metal) boxes full of gasoline which are propelled in opposing directions on the freeway at velocities matching that of low flying aircraft.

This is a roundabout way of saying that cars are dangerous....

To be honest both are over the top and over priced. Remember you'll also need keyboard mouse and LCD screen.

they are better prices by Chris......why not just get another laptop ? you can get a good core i5 for around the $700 mark. you wont have to buy any accessories and its portable. if you really want to speed things up then buy a SSHD as Guy suggested, that'll cost another $200 for 120 gig but to be honest what youll be using it for, you wont need it. Just put 8 gig of ram in it and off you go.

    just my two bobs worth

Above is the same one I bought for my mother. core i5 (quad core) second Gen

Unless you will be gaming or doing lots of photo editing it is simply not worth the price difference to go for an i7. It is several hundred $$$ more for the i7. Put 8 gig of ram in it and youll be going for years without having to upgrade. (the above comes with 4, $50 tops for another 4gig)
