if i could afford both id probs go the hyundai, VW arent reliable, the dealers are wankers, overpriced upgrades ..
but if i could afford a gti id get another option outta the two anyway

It's a nice bit of kit. Interesting rear roof and it looks a little like the Honda Civic Type R with its high wing. Depending on pricing, it might carve out a nice niche for itself. I like the idea of a Golf GTI with DSG, but I think they are too expensive, even 2nd hand.
