Could be the 1.4L engine.
Sure, we dont have to worry about viking raids or scurvy anymore, but instead we make a daily routine of sitting in flimsy, fibreglass (or metal) boxes full of gasoline which are propelled in opposing directions on the freeway at velocities matching that of low flying aircraft.
This is a roundabout way of saying that cars are dangerous....
Could be the 1.4L engine.

It's the engine indeed. Was the 1.4 and is slow as. No go at all and the car just felt heavy. Guess specially if you're used to more power. Expected more but the r version with more power, probably different shocks, would be better.... I hope.
front on, i think its one of the best looking cars to date.
04 Astra Sri - Silver - Full red leather interior - mk4 888 wheels - Star light roof lining - lowered - ice - exhaust - vxr brakes - quite a few other things.
my ride - no longer faster than qlds sri-t's
OEM+

Having seen it in France & Italy, suprisingly didn't see one in Germany (did see lots of GTIs there), I'm not a fan of the rear. The front looks superb.
I do wonder how well the R puts down it's power with FWD? Does it have an LSD?
My chipped GTI struggles to put down the power with a claimed 183kW & 405Nm with the stock tyres/suspension. I may get put on some fresh rubber on the front soon.

Would definitely be because the base models are not as lively as the more powerful R
Agree + 1 on the looks John...
The front right up to 2/3rds down the side of the car are pure porn, but the rear quarter panels and tailgate let it down...
The tail lights are looking real dated IMHO, they need to be livened up a bit with full LED internals like the the Golf, new Eos and lots of other VW models now get...
The Scirocco R gets the same 'psuedo' LSD set up as the Mk6 Golf Gti, which is a better set up than the MK5 Gti's in terms of putting power down...
Reviews seems to suggest that stock standard the Scirocco R does a very good job at putting its power down, with increased power depending on how much (stage 1 remap puts it at 240kw / 450nm) it's anyones guess, there should be plenty of reviews out there on modded Sciroccos
My rides: 2004 Opel/Bertone TS Astra turbo convertible - 2012 Mercedes Benz C204 C Class coupe
Others: 2009 Honda City VTiL sedan - 2015 Fiat 500
I was really wanting one of these, I was constantly asking my VW Area manager if they were coming and he always said no. So I bought the RS Megane. And after seeing a Scirocco in person I'm kinda glad I didn't get one, and by all reports it doesn't handle as well as it should
This Fifth Gear review between Focus RS, Scirocco R and Megane RS is very interesting:

It would be better if is rear wheel drive
