So, last week in Europe, I drove the VW Scirocco (not the one in the pics, spotted this one in Germany) and must say that though it has a very solid feel, great interior and looks great, it drives a bit like a tank, feels slugish and the seats seem to be made of concrete. Gearbox is smooooth as and the steering is very direct. This wasn't the top spec model though. I think my money would be on the golf r. Having said that, it would be great to see a few of these babies on the Australian roads.

We're only getting the R here in Aust.
No doubt on account of all reviews and tests it'll be an awesome vehicle to drive which should not dissapoint...
I'm going to try and book myself in advance for a test drive from the VW stand at the International Motor Show next week
My rides: 2004 Opel/Bertone TS Astra turbo convertible - 2012 Mercedes Benz C204 C Class coupe
Others: 2009 Honda City VTiL sedan - 2015 Fiat 500
They look awesome, but Golf would be way more practical.

The one that I drove was the 1.4 tsi bluemotion which is the cheapest version owned by a mate. Would have loved to try the 2.0 with the 6 dsg box which I might do at the next visit to Europe but gotta go go into a dealer for that. Or if they have, the R version.
If you can get your hands on an R then that would give us an accurate idea
Despite the Golf R and also the upcoming Scirocco R being stated as de-tuned for Aust. conditions, they seem to put out the same power and performance numbers here as their O/S counterparts from some material I've read, so comparison wise they should drive/feel the same...

Yeah, they should feel similar on paper, that's what I thought too, but the scirocco being slightly longer, wider and heavier, drives much different to a golf (having driven plenty of these). Golf has more of a go-kart feel to me compared to the scirocco which feels like a tank, very heavy. Still a nice drive though but not as good as I expected. To try an R version would indeed give a better idea as the 1.4 doesn't have any go at all. Wait till September - October as i'll be going back again.

I've driven the 2ltr diesel with DSG,and can only say WOWZER.If I had a spare £30k I would have one tomorrow.
The Scirocco R is close to 150kg lighter than a Golf R.
