A 3" dump pipe will be big enough and you wont have any issues with hitting or rubbing. I dont think anyone has gone bigger than 3" would be a waste of money in my opinion.

As said, get a whiteline adjustable rear sway bar on it, it completely transforms how the car drives around corners as you can dial out some of the understeer. The original reviews on the handling was done with the sri-t setup underneath which is slighlty different to the production spec and is why they all complained about torque steer etc.

For the dump pipe, 3" fits no worries, but the exhaust flange on these cars is different to what you'd find on most so just need to keep that in mind.

In regards to tuning, I guess it depends on how far you want to go and what sensation you want out of the car. There are 3 popular ones being the Dreamscience (Stratagem), Bluefin and the EDS IPF.

Make sure you sign up on www.hsvvxr.com as well Click here to enlarge www.vxronline.co.uk also has heaps of info on just how far you can mod these things.
I would probably get a custom DP made, so I will have to enquire about the flange. I signed up for hsvvxr.com but it seems there are about 2 posts per week made, so not sure if it worth asking questions on there haha. I'm basically after the most cost-effective way to get to 200-210kw (and whatever that would translate to in terms of FWKW).

Apart from whiteline sway bar, what are the next best bang-for-buck mods? I would mostly be chasing usable torque rather than peak power, and responsiveness is more than ok for me now.

If you getting a custom one made, just tell them to cut the flange off the OE downpipe and weld it on to the new one Click here to enlarge If your looking for that power, thats about a stage 3 which you'd get there with both the bluefin and EDS IPF. The EDS tune is more progressive where as the bluefin one is more fun. I've driven vxr's with all the different tunes on them and they all had their good and bad points. I've got the EDS one on mine as I found it more usuable on the street and track, but it lacks that seat of the pants feel that the other tunes have due to it's progresiveness.

To run that power you'll definately need to look at an aftermarket intercooler. The kits I recommend are either the Forge Motorsport one or the Courtenay Motorsport ones. There are cheaper kits about but as I haven't used them I can't really comment, but will say that there is a reason some kits are alot cheaper. Speak to PWR up there in QLD as they may have developed a kit for the VXR's now, not sure.

This is a list of mods on mine and a few others, which you wouldn't need all of to get to what your after, but 2 of the other guys are getting about 190kw at the wheels with the hybrid turbo and inlet manifold. It's about 175kw at the wheels without those which is where you are aiming.

EDS/Regal Inlet Manifold, Thermal Gasket, Regal Inlet Cam, EVOMS Diverter Valve, Forge FMIC, Quaife ATB, Custom 3" Turbo Back, Whiteline RARB, Uprated FARB, AP Racing Brakes, Percy CDTi Airbox Conversion, Oil Breather Box, Dap-r Springs, Bilstein B8's,AET Hybrid Turbo, Courtenay Brake Cooling Ducts, Cool Running Thermo, CS Pro Alloy Uprated Radiator.
    Track Times: Phillip Island - 1:59.4027, Calder Park - 1:08.8142, Winton 3km - 1:40.7810, Sandown - 1:29.6000, Haunted Hills - 62.55, 1/4 Mile - 13.736

Thanks heaps for your input - very helpful. I am only working part-time as I am back at uni doing my second degree, so it will be a long progress. So far my plans for mods are:

Get gutter rash fixed (anyone know of a cheap-yet-acceptable wheel repair place/guy in Brisbane?)
Intake modified (panel filter - maybe cdi box)
    3" downpipe
    Bluefin/EDS
    Sway Bar

Then, if I can afford it, I will look at FMIC, Hybrid turbo etc...

Does this seem like a logical progression? (ie if an intercooler will be more beneficial than ECU to begin with - let me know!)

Can anyone give me some tips on what gearbox oil to use to prevent crunching 1st-->2nd?

Nurb608, I am assuming the 608 refers to 608/835.....how did you get that car if only 20 were imported? I'm guessing they didnt import consecutive numbers?

Stage 1 and Stage 2 don't require the intercooler so you can do that later on down the track.

With gearbox oil, depends what you want to spend. Royal Purple is highly recommended by alot of people. If your getting crunching, get your engine mounts checked as well.

Yeah, the 608 is my cars number. I think the numbers are all over the place.

When I was shopping around for cars I noticed that the Focus XR5 only requires an intake and hi-flow cat for Bluefin stage 2.

Am I right in thinking that a 3" DP+cat and intake will be sufficient for stage 2 tunes on the VXR? How much would a container of royal purple be? Will look at mounts when I get the car serviced next week or so - it doesnt feel like they are sagged as the car is quite "firm" on the throttle - ie everything seems to be pretty well bolted together, both inside and outside the cabin (I am OCD with rattles etc)
