    $700 Notebook

Need to buy a notebook for a family member for household (no gaming) use.

    I was thinking of the LENOVO G560 i5-450M 2.4GHz, 4GB, 500GB, 15.6" WXGA http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...ducts_id=49492

Anything bad about it or any recommendation for around the $7-800 mark?

    hmmmm, Lenovo vs HP?

Some reviews say this HP has poor build quality...

    HP has HDMI,

but I haven't seen either in the flesh..

so Calibrated you recommend the Lenovo?

lenovo is top shelf for build quality and durability. the HP is definitely the more "aesthetically pleasing" of the two.

my pick would be the lenovo (and i own an HP DV2, and had a DV9).

I think I may select the Lenovo as they are known to be more durable compared to the consumer spec HP (I have a business spec HP).

I suppose the $75 saving is also good, but at the expense of a HDMI port.

Both should have similar performance being i5s and 6 cell batteries..

I'll ask the person if they need HDMI.

Ended up with the LENOVO 067989M $739 http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...ducts_id=49494

Same CPU has the HP and also has HDMI.

Was going to say they are much of a muchness in terms of build quality. both arent as good as they used to be. HP are just not the same and since IBM sold off the lenovo name they havent been the same either. But for $739.....your laughin.
