    Windows Media Player

Did a virus and spyware scan, came up with a few issues and now, everytime I play a video and close WMP, the system freezes. Any ideas? I tried to download MP12, but it tells me that my system is already up to date. Click here to enlarge

    Maybe I lost a codec?

Came across this site, not sure if it will help?

download VLC and use that instead.

Have you tried uninstalling media player via the Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features in Vista/7 - I know you can uninstall media player in XP, not in front of my 7/Vista PC to know whether you can do it on that....

Last nite I installed K-Lite media player and also an updated driver for the graphics card (which ended up being not the right one). But I increased the screen resolution and now it's doesn't go blank and then freeze when I close the program after I play a vid. But looks like the quality of the video has dropped a bit.

Will see how it goes tonight when I play around with it again.

This is all you need to play ANY video file!

It's what I use with the included MPC ( media player classic ) It's small and very very powerful , And it is not a resource hog like most other media players available.

Oh its CCCP - The oragne link on the left.

I tried this some time ago and the only kind of file that worked properly were the matroska HD files - everything else (.avi etc) all the colours were weird - tried uninstalling and reinstalling, changing resolution a whole lot of stuff but still couldnt get it to work....

Yeah - It's the age old problem with software and computers.

What works for one person - Might not work for someone else.

For me MPC with the CCCP is the best mdeia player I have come across.

I was using GOM Player - Wich is also a fantastic freeware player - But it does not support embedded subs.

I used VLC for a while - But MPC is much nicer.
