Do you have the kit lens? 18-55mm?

How wide do you want to go?

What do you want to shoot with it?

A good step up from the kit lens would be the 17-85mm efs ( will run you about $800 )

Or if you wanted a prime maybe a 24mm
    ($500) or a 28mm ($300)

You may find the odd second hand one on flee bay NUGGZ but usually your looking between 800 and 1600 for a wide angle lens. I wouldn't touch those add on fish eye things either.

I bought a fish eye adaptor... and they're crap
    Don't waste your money there.
I'm using a Sigma 12-24mm Wide Angle - somewhere in the $900 range.
You could get the 10-22 Sigma for a little cheaper than that.

True fish eye lenses are in that range too, maybe a bit more.

If you were to but Canon, you'll generally be paying $100-$200 on top of the Sigma's.

Also using a Sigma wide angle 10-20 http://www.camera-warehouse.com.au/p...m-f4-5.6-ex-dc
Try Tamron as they are a bit cheaper

Really happy with the 10-20,bought it initially for work related subjects but have found it real handy at car shows !

17mm aint wide enough if you're on a crop body which I'm guessing you are. A crop body has a 1.6x multiplier so you have to times 17mm x 1.6 to get the true focal length (27mm in this case)

Have a look at the Tokina series of wide angles.

You'll need a lens thats between 10mm to 17mm to get a wide effect.

The sigma 10-20mm, Canon 10-22mm are also good options, but may be a little pricey. Wide angle lenses tend not to be sharp either due to distortion and limitations in lens design.
