Growth @ Hyundai Australia in 2009

Hyundai is the only Manafacturer to have had grown in 2009. The have managed to have continued growth through the GFC in Australia and have increased the market share by 4.4% which has taken them to the 4th highest selling manafacturer in 2009.

I think that its an achievement to be able gain market share during what has been a very tough year in the Motor Vehicle Industry.

Wouldn't the market share growth have been caused by the GFC though? Hyundai's are cheap, got to play a significant part in buying a car during a global recession.

Good point. All you hear about Hyundai in the media nowadays is how cheap and economical they are to run. Combined with the GFC is seems the perfect opportunity for them...

Considering Kia are cheap to run and have new products out they arent recording the same growth. Its unusal for any Motor Vehicle Manfacturer to grow in depression or GFC . New cars never sell well during a GFC time.

They also say in the article that its now time to make the brand attractive to more demographics.

Flipside of Kia though - Great Wall are exceeding expectations, selling over 250+ utes a month.. would they have done as well back when people had money and optimism?

It is an achievement, just not a surprising one. We enter the worst crisis in 50+ years and korean/chinese car makers boom. Similarly I wouldn't be surprised if entering our largest ever boom showed an increase in BMW sales..

Hyundais are good these days though, has to be said Click here to enlarge

There's the answer to Hyundai's growth vs. Kia right there.

Public perception is that they are now a good quality product. Kia on the other hand still have a few public image issues...
