    heres a question..

    my gf's laptop has vista *shudders* the type of install that cant be downgraded to xp (theres a thread about this somewhere as well)

    will W7 install over vista? i mean, am i going to be stuck with this shit forever?

    Certain versions of windows 7 will UPGRADE certain versions of Vista. I am not clear on what ones they are.

    A clean install is never a bad thing though..

    you can upgrade Vista to Windows 7, and keep all your doc's, settings, etc exactly how it was. i would definitely recommend moving up to 7 than backwards to XP.

    or of course do a backup and clean install, which is always better.

    You can upgrade to W7, and i'd recomend it highly, especially on a laptop running vista. If you can, i'd recomend saving all your data and completely wiping the laptop and do a fresh install.

    well, when windows 98 came out, USB's werent exactly common.. it was still very new technology. as for windows NT. Get out. NT was awesome for what it was back then, it laid the foundations for the Server range (2000, 2003, 2008).
