swapped the 120gb hard drive out for the original 20gb and it's working fine for now... will give the 120gb another go later today if i can be bothered...

doubt that would work but if i was going to do it that way id wait till my warrenty ran out and id just get some lead soldier and thermal paste out of the shed

Sorry to hear that mate. You should also get 1mth gold membership when you get your xbox back.
I think microsoft are fixing all rrod's regardless if warranty is expired or not. I still have one of the 1st xbox (from preorder before they were released) and had the rrod 1 year ago.
thats right DEE-80Y, they are still fixing them outside of the warranty period.
as much of a playstation fan that i am, i applaud microsoft for doing this.
