Bingo. You can all thank Toby - the problem is due to (most likely) TPG's DNS servers. By default your computer will be sending DNS requests to your modem, which passes them to the default ISP's DNS servers - if they lookup by domain name isn't successful like above, it will fail. If you know the IP address of the location where you want to go - it will work - like shown above.

There are several ways around DNS problems - some ISP's own internal DNS servers are absolute rubbish for various reasons - sometimes because they are offline, or don't update quick enough.

The main way around this is to use someone elses DNS servers - another ISPs for instance - you will usually find this will improve your overall internet experience. I've never been with TPG, but I know from past experience that BigPond's DNS servers are rubbish - they might of fixed them now - its been several years.

I have found Westnet's and Internodes to be relatively good.

I'm with TPG and been getting major dropouts over the last week or so. It's starting to happen with some other websites too, like Wikipedia, but OpelAus is pretty bad.
