What do you use to clean the calipers?

Hi guys, another Q.
with the 17''s on, the ugly dirty calipers are well exposed.
tried soap, toothbrush, do not work.
tried jif, toothbrush, do not work.
tried the brake cleaner, toothbrush, do not work at all, wasted my 10 bucks.

so would you show me your tricks?

if they are hopeless, i will spray paint them BLUE.(that's a tough job..........)

it's actually dirty and dark, coz the flash

wire brush and degreaser, and a hell of a lot of elbow grease

i started doin it like pete said,
but the CBF so just used the wire brush and a air compressor to blow all the dust away, had them painted for a couple of months and had no problems, and i've had the brakes smoking they got so hot, but the paint is still on, and still finne

oh and BTW its much easier with the wheels off

I took my calipers off and acid washed them. Came up like new then painted them.

doesn't need to be mentioned that you need to be very careful not to get any cleaning fluid under the boot and into the piston assembly, as it relies on a thin film of brake fluid for lubrication.

Also be careful with scrubbing tools as the boots are thin and easily nicked.

once u spray paint them you'll only need to use degreaser
on OEM paint its very hard to keep them clean.

Like guy said acid will bring them up like new with no elbow grease. Just not sure if that product i available to the general public. My mates a car detailer for a holden dealership and he used it on my car, works a treat

Acid will also get through the rubber boots and stuff up the pistons. Only do that if you are going to rebuild the Calipers (new pins / grease /paint etc). I would recommend to just spray degreaser, and wash off. Dont worry too much about getting them too clean - you will end up causing more damage and probably damaging your alloy wheels as well.

give them a good clean with wax and grease remover before you apply the paint so it sticks well
