RIP Euro built Astras for Australia

According to Go Auto (www.goauto.com.au) and confirmed by Holden, the new Mk VI Astra range will not be imported in to Australia. And, there will be no more imports of the current AH range. In July, 369 Astras were sold.

However, the suggestion is that the Astra nameplate will resurface in 2010 on the new small hatch to be built by Holden in South Australia.

I don't think any of us are really surprised by this news.

I really hope they don't call the Australian built Cruze an Astra...

Too many $$ invested in the name so far for an Aus built sedan no to be called Cruze.

The hatch, however, could be another story although I recall reading somewhere where the Holden honchos said that Cruze would be the name stuck on the bum of all Australian built Delta vehicles, hatch or sedan.

Old? It's a brand new chassis, brand new car isn't it?

I'll agree on heavy but, 1522kg for the diesel Click here to enlarge

1.8's about the same weight as an astra but, 1367kg.

Anyone else wondering the future of OA now that the only new Opel offered here is in the shape of a combo?

As discussed in a different thread, the CD cruze petrol weigh 1367kg. I would imagine the CDX will weigh even more. thats heavier than a mazda 3 SP25 Luxury.

Yeah, it is a brand new chassis (Delta II) and brand new car, only released this year world wide.

Wouldn't think it'd have too much of an impact on the future of OpelAus as there are a lot of car clubs around devoted to cars that are no longer available...

Same as an astra but - 1365kg from memory. Shame, if we were all content driving around in 0 star safety cars you could knock 300kg off easily...
