Had the car lowered at Pedders, dropped it about 40mm. Had an interesting chat with the foreman about Astras (done quite a few apparently), he told me that even from factory the front/rear ends are quite often out and will scrub the inside of the tyres. I got him to check the rear while I was there and sure enough it was out and needed shimming. $645 for springs, fitting and F/R alignments. Ride comfort hasn't really changed and we have noticed for some reason the road noise has decreased slightly.

Sure, we dont have to worry about viking raids or scurvy anymore, but instead we make a daily routine of sitting in flimsy, fibreglass (or metal) boxes full of gasoline which are propelled in opposing directions on the freeway at velocities matching that of low flying aircraft.
This is a roundabout way of saying that cars are dangerous....
