what was wrong with the vienta? they were a good car Click here to enlarge
Sure, we dont have to worry about viking raids or scurvy anymore, but instead we make a daily routine of sitting in flimsy, fibreglass (or metal) boxes full of gasoline which are propelled in opposing directions on the freeway at velocities matching that of low flying aircraft.

This is a roundabout way of saying that cars are dangerous....

The Vienta was ready for some maintenance items - brakes, shocks, maybe some steering or suspension bush work, my wife really didn't drive it very far, so it was using a fair bit of fuel. Basically, time for a change, and what better time than a week before $700 of rego and $200 of tyres! We'd had it since it was 1 year old with 10,000kms, so after 12 years I thought she needed a change. No need for the family size car as I now have a work car to use on holidays etc, so we can downsize.

I had never thought about the Astras really, but stumbled upon the diesel, looked up the specs and the reviews and thought it looked good as I have recently got a diesel X-Trail through work and absolutely love the way the diesel goes and how little fuel it uses doing it. Once we drove one, I thought it was great, and Alison was happy, so we worked out a deal.

It gives us more walking room in the garage too!

Thanks about the wheels, I need to get a value for them to add them to the insurance policy. Bizarre part about the insurance is that I transferred it from the Vienta (insured for $7,900 - should've written it off!) to the Astra (insured at $23,100), and they are sending me a cheque for $13 - go figure!
