everyones talking CANON Click here to enlarge..... what about Nikon... have u had look at the D60... its a brand new camera from Nikon - 10.2 megap, 2.5" LCD - its designed specificallly to have less buttons so that the photographer can concentrate on taking photos - very userfriendly - which sounds like something you're looking for in a DSLR.

I think they retail for about $750.00 (body only).

no. D60 doesn't have Live View Function. You'd have to go for the D90 if you want Live View. Canon's base model 1000d has live view.

Thats the base model Canon DSLR
    Good camera

What you need to understand is, these cameras will allow you to do so much more than any regular point and shoot.
Its not just a better quality picture.

I'd recommend with any first time DSLR buyer, to buy the base model, and learn to use the camera and all its functions. This takes time though.
Sure you can set it any of the automatic functions, and away you go. Yes your photos will be good.
I discovered a whole new world when I did a course, and learnt what my camera could actually do. Learnt what each of the functions do, what they allow you to do, and why we need them and change/use them constantly.

ICE and Corsa_Rob I know both have the 1000D. I know they love it, and it is easy to use. Live view is good, but I personally cant go past the viewfinder.
