    The 5D doesn't take just basic photos...
    About 4.5G will get you a small 5D setup

    lol you know what I meant... for 4.5-6k you wouldn't have all the cool gear you have to take advanced photo's

    Lol considering I need it for my work + study and you usually use one for quite a while (i do anyway :P) the final bill was well justifiedClick here to enlarge. Next one I buy will be a 5D but thats a while away...a long long LONG while away haha.

    For other's information, I bought mine @ Camera house in Parra, was the cheapest I could find.

    My 17-200 kit is usually $2799 but was and should still be on discount so you should easily get it under that.

    Ok well I only have a Samsung L730 point-n-shoot which is fine for portraits but shit for my car pics. If I wanted to buy a relatively cheap camera tonight that takes good pics what should I get?

    For relatively the same price, you're better off getting a Canon 1000D.
    Atleast with the Canon, you'll be able to expand your skills with new lenses etc.

    Exactly.

    i just bought the 1000D, great camera for learning the ropes, if your new to DSLRs (like me) no point spending any more at this stage.

    Bought mine at JB for about $1K (twin lens kit)
