Big difference between the 50D and 450D. However, I'd only upgrade if the 450D is not doing what you want it to do, which really is not much.
50D is becoming a semi-professional camera, and the 5D Mk II, well yeah... only if you're a pro.

What type of photography are you doing?

I recently got myself a 50D Click here to enlarge I'm very very happy with it. The CMOS sensor is quite excellent - 3200 ISO can still produce ACCEPTABLE images for web use - probably no major print though.

Heres a pic I took with it:

PS's only involvement was to shrink the file and convert to jpg.

I've found that Liveview has shown itself to be extremely handy. While I do try to use the view finder 100% of the time, there are instances where the choice is to either:

    1. Use view finder/guess and shoot for 10 minutes or...
    2. Use liveview and take the picture perfectly, then move on.

With the liveview you can zoom in (digitally) into your target and refocus even more accurately which is great. I know there are scopes and such for the view finder but those I would imagine (no idea) are pretty $$$. the 50D's inclusion of the liveview is just one of those things thats "better to have and not use than to not have and need it" kinda thing Click here to enlarge

I was taught photography with a Canon so I'll be sticking to them forever Click here to enlarge
