Knew a guy who did that with an '01 Impreza, RX car, WRX motor, gearbox etc, the amount of f***ing around they did with that car and the amount of trouble it gave was very not worth it!!! Not to mention that in the end it cost him the same for the conversion as it was if he bought a WRX in the first place!!! Not so much the tools, more the case of much more different components from RX to WRX than the motor!!!

I don't think it can be done with the new Impreza as the STi runs a slightly different shell...would be worth buying that and buying a RX version and just doing a transplant of the engine
Previous generation Impreza's haven't been too hard to do it with. When Subaru left rallying in Australia a few years back, the 20 or so Subaru RS Rally Challenge cars were now stupidly uncompetitive in any class other than the challenge, so all but a couple are now converted STi's...
