apparently you can only go two sizes up from the stock size, in order to be road worthy. also ive been told it will be hard to get insurance with the 18" especially if they arent road worthy (other than with Just Car)
    Is this true?

Tyres will always be cheaper when purchased as a package with a full set of rims, instead of tyres only or an individual or a couple of tyres only...as already stated in a complete wheel packeage, you can get a good 20" low profile tyre for around that figure above, so a good 18 can be had for less...

The 'normal' rule of thumb is what you've stated above...

Check with your individual insurer and policy you have !!!

Whatever they let you get away with or have, that's what you should stick to Click here to enlarge

Just make sure the tyre loading specs are in check and you'll have no hassles...

I thought that was right but it was 2 sizes up from the largest size on the Model, eg G Astra had 17"s on the SRi-T (i think) so you could go 19"s on the G astra's.
You should be fine with 18"s

the astra SRi & Turbo are in a different boat to the astra city, cd, equipe etc etc - in terms of legal tyre specs.
the astra SRi & turbo came with 17s standard from factory, whereas the "normal" astras came with 15s or 16s as factory standard.

ur meant to b able to upsize 2" max from these - according to insurance companies.

ur local jaxquikfit or bobjane store can tell u - they have the tables to work all that out, and if its legal for ur car.

    Correct....

As in my 1st post here - 18's are the choice !!!

The only reason to not go 18's is if the budget won't allow Click here to enlarge
