I will tidy up the grounding wire on Monday forgot to bring the crimps home from work
Attempted a paint correction on the bonnet.
Apart from the fact that my car has countless stone chips in it and the only real way to fix it is a respray, I thought I'd get the swirl marks out and bring back the shine, the results are pretty good.
Just gotta do more work to get the holograms out (which I would have introduced during this process) and see if I can do anything about the stubborn etchings.
But here are a few snaps of the before and afters:
I washed the bonnet, and clayed it twice.
I've read that you can 'lightly wipe the clay over the <insert car part>'
But on Junkman's advice (see below), I SCRUBBED it. Twice. It lifted a lot of dirt out of scratches and etchings that were hiding them.
Swirl marks (camera flash is great for showing these up if you don't have other lights)

Taped and quick detailed to remove the residue of the clay barring. Now we can see what the damage is.

Etchings - bird shit or just cracked clear coat, not sure...

I did a slow cut of a 1' x 1' test area based on some videos I've seen on Detailing World by Junkman.
Used a medium cut pad on a DAS6 DA and Megs Ultimate Compound
ONE application of Ultimate, and ONE 'spritz' of Quick Detailer in between - no more compound
3 passes on speed 3 with no downward pressure
1 pass on speed 5 with no downward pressure
1 pass on speed 6 with some pressure.
After seeing the results of that (it got most everything out except some etching and obviously, stone chips), I went with Junkman's recommendation of 2 passes on the rest of the bonnet at speed 5, medium pressure.
Follow up with a polish and a light cut pad.
A coat of wax.
This is the result
Deceiving - Focusing on the reflection, you don't see the imperfections that still exist. Still, this is an amazing result for me. Pretty stoked.

Took the car outside to see how well I really did.
Holograms (the 3 lines)

More etchings that I didn't remove on this attempt. The car is covered in these little buggers :(

Plenty of learning to do, and I can only do 1 panel at a time for various reasons, so it'll take a while before it's all done.
But great skill to learn and might get into some paid work later for a hobby.
went on a mazda MPS cruise, flogged the shit out of my poor beast, though they had trouble keeping up through galston gorge :p
Kicked the shit out of it!
Umm.... drive my car to work?
Poor thing needs a clean.
yeah yeah yeah..drove through sorta high water on friday and splashed the engine bay...couldn't be fagged cleaning it....cleaned the outside though.....(see below):
