Hey,
My brake and clutch fluid needs to be changed...
Can i use a DOT 5.1 or something like that?
I think Holden use a Castrol DOT 4 or something like that.
Will i notice any difference with a higher DOT rating?
Just curious as i work in a car store now and can pretty much get close to cost prices :D

You should be fine using a higher grade oil however i'd use the stuff thats reccommended and stuff that meets the right approval codes. Mainly because of seals etc.
Seein as tho you work there you should be able to order in the exact product.
i'll say its fine, as 5.1 just means it has a higher boiling point over 4.1
unless you're flogging the brakes, 4.1 is fine..
Stick with the recommended DOT 4
Castrol Response Super DOT 4 has a boiling point of 283 C, which is the highest on the market for non-racing fluid and is only about $9 for 500 ml.
Even Motul 600 racing fluid at $60 for 500 ml is not much higher as 600 is degrees Fahrenheit not Centigrade.
You will need just under a litre to flush the system.
as far as i know mixing different fluids is a big no no as well?
Yes thats correct. That goes for everything! Especially coolant.
after 2 years brake and clutch fluid is replaced. so i am due now.
bloke at work reckons i will notice a better pedal feel from a better fluid.
but i was also under the impression that mixing brake fluids isnt as bad as coolants.
ended up getting the motul 600 factory stuff, which is dot 4.
asked the guys at holdens and the old brake fluid would have to be 100% flushed out of the system to run dot 5.1, so as they wouldnt flush it 100% i got the top of the range of the dot 4.
