140+ in a 100 zone, Mr Officer was understanding and dropped it to 20km over.

Meh, it happens. I dont condone speeding but....
I REFUSE to have rocks the size of fists come through my windscreen because of FUXED-IN-THE-HEAD truck carrying bulldozers dropping crap all along the freeway.
Im sure he would have stopped and rendered assistance if He'd caused an accident too....NOT!!!

(Wouldnt dropping rocks be considered an 'unsecure load'?)

yeah a unsucured load indeed.

you could of just slowed right down instead of speeding?

or pulled up next too him n let him know.

I had 4hrs of driving to go and he wouldnt have payed for the respray.
He SHOULD have known he was doing it, nearly ALL of them do.

bad luck mate. i dont condone speeding either but i can understand the frustration of trying to get out of the way of someone who is dangerous. I have sped to get out of situations before, at the time it seems like the best option, in hindsight there are sometimes other ways around it.

Happend to me also. i was behind a truck (on my way to get my new exhaust fitted :)) i was about to pass the truck in the left lane when he swaped into the lane i was traveling in. then hes truck startted FALLING APART polls wehe dangling off the sides and the roof was sliding off to the left. i thought no way this ****s gonna hit my car so put it down into 4th and booted it past him at about 120. just lukey ther were no boys in blue present.

not if the copper didnt see it..

if you gave them a plate, they could check it and then at least they know you werent crapping to them.
if you sped up to go round a truck, and got done, im sure the copper wouldve seen the truck...
unless you were way ahead or no-where near the truck by then, then you deserve to get done.

if u speed u deserve to get done no matter what, its the fact of if you get done or not.

if your speeding and you know it, then you know your breaking the law and now there is a chance of getting done for it, so there fore y whinge about it and make up excuses for doing it.....

my 2 cent rant...

Actually, if you are speeding you are breaking the law regardless if you know about it or not. Strict liability.

I don't believe you need to do 140kph+ to overtake a truck, who would be limited to 100kph anyway. If you do 110kph, you still overtake the truck but just not as quickly.

Even if you got the rego number of the truck, might just save you an excess in respraying your car - not a speeding ticket. Thank your lucky stars you got an experienced highway patrolman.

corect me if im wrong but 140 in vic with the new hoon laws and you could have lost your car for 2 days! i think its 135 or over and bye bye car for 2 days on a first offence. if you speed and get caught no matter what take it on the chin. i also bebeive you would have lost your licence for a month or 2 for 140 so feel VERY LUCKY

4km/h more and i would have lost the car, he said.

To those who would rather creep past a truck and risks of doing so more power to you, thats your choice. I think that in the same situation, most people would try and pass.

In regards to getting the guys numberplate, we'd pulled up before the truck had passed and I physically pointed it out to the cop.
After a brief discussion he admitted that he 'saw what happened, but why didnt I slow down sooner?'
My reply was 'I was letting it cruise back down instead of braking'.
He said 'You were a long way in front, you could have slowed sooner'.

I sped and got done, not complaining about it just telling it.

Im just glad it was an understanding cop, not a speedcam, that would let me know weeks later.

Probably would have done just the same as you . . . actually, I'm sure that I have been in the same situation!
Of course, the alternative could have been: Pull over and take a 5 minute stretch and walk around your car to check out the local flora and fauna. By the time you get going again, and presuming you stick to the posted speed limit(!), the chances of actually catching up and finding yourself in the same situation behind the truck is rather unlikely. All good in the ideal world where we are never in a hurry, hey!

Sorry to hear of the dilemma, but at least you found yourself a co-operative and understanding upholder of the state laws.

trucks may be speed limited too 100km/h but i have seen sooo many doing way more than that..

wattie i guess it depends on the copper you get.. he'll either believe you, or think your giving him a bullsh1t story and fine you anyway..

altho it is ilegal to speed and the cops have that saying "safe speeding, no such thing" i think most people would have sped up, i know i sure would..

as most have said, sorry to hear about that pred, you obviously werent speeding to be a hoon, you were speeding to avoid damage, just unfortunate that the law doesnt seperate the two..

It's nothing out of the ordinary with my luck that in a 700km return trip, with the cruise set at 103km/h (via GPS) that in the same 500m that I excessively sped, there was a cop with a laser-gun.

If someone somewhere was telling me something, I'd have prefered an email or SMS.

Lifes like that. *shrug*

Out of the choices in that poll I would somethin different.

I'd pull off the next exit, get the lights/roundabout and take my tim, go back down the on ramp and get back on the highway. Before you know if the truck will be 5 - 10 k's in front of ya and you & your car will be safe.

Honestly, it's just like overtaking, as if you will overtake someone on a one-lane either way road, doing 110km/h if they are doing, say, 105, or 100. You'd be there all day, Your best bet would be to boot it and fly past them. If you get booked, hey, you get booked. But there's not many cops around who will book you for stuff like that. However, if 100m down the road you were still doing the speed you were overtaking at, well, you get done :) The cop was right tho, and lucky he understood and was having a good day :)

Sorry to hear about it Pred8r, check you penalty notice or the facts of the charge to see if the unit serial number starts with SE if it does then chances are the unit is a silver eagle which are noted for being bad at speed detection:

See ACA Episode:

http://www.policespeedcameras.info/video/ACA_SpeedCameras15Feb06.wmv (http://www.policespeedcameras.info/video/ACA_SpeedCameras15Feb06.wmv)

I'm currently talking with Roy Zeger as i am in court defending a speeding offence. He is ex navy and a Radar specialist. The limits of the silver eagle are quite legnthy. Maybe you should fight it??

riiiight. and then drive the whole way avoiding rocks and crap that have been dropped o the road? love to see what happens when you hit a baseball sized rock at 100kph...

done that a few time on my trips up north, stop, grab a drink and pull off...only to catch up with them 20-30 minutes later. and the amount of a55holes that sit on 95/100 in a 110 zone, then they speed up when you try ans pass them!!! not a prob in my srit, but sometimes we take the hyundia cos its better on fuel, but crap on the over taking. next retard that speeds up when i try and overtake on a country hwy is gonna get run off the road (cos the hyundia is a POS and not my car :D )

my vote is to over take as reasonable speed and then slow back down, by reasonable i dont mean plant it in 3rd and end up doin 160 before you back off, but not many cops will book you for 120 if you are overtakinga nd then slow down straight away. some will....but then cops are people too, and we all know, some people suck :).

plant it in 3rd and end up doin 160 :).

LOVE my SRi :)

not that it does 160 in 3rd, i need 4th for that :p

JasonGilholme

It all depends on what kinda road you're talkin about. If its a country road chances are theres not gonna be any cops around to book you and if its a stright piece of road and you can see a long way in front you should be relatively safe.

As for hitting a ball sized rock....you blind man???

blueraven
5th September 2006, 01:02 AM
tell that to the people who hit kangaroo's....they must all be blind.

you ever hit a pot hole? ever? you must be blind too.

at 100kph you think you can spot and avoid a rock that may be the same colour as the road? sure, maybe if you were keenly watching the road surface instead of the road ahead like you should be, on a clear day, on a straight road with no other distractions.

on short trips i agree with your method, long trips i proved it can fail.

Pred, I'd have done the exact same thing in your situation.
I'd have tried to take his rego down tho, but its not that easy with rocks flying at you and wanting to get out of the way.

On the bright side, at least the cop dropped the speed down for you. If he didnt, then it would've been fcuked.

If your doing 45km/h or more over the speed limit, you get a $387 fine, 6 demerit points and your car gets taken from you for 3 days.......

If this makes your demerit points total 12 or more over the last 3 years, you lose your licence for 6 months, if your a 'P' plater you can kiss your licence good bye for 12 months under the same circumstances

So if your in Vic. be very careful of your speed on the Freeways !!!

(easier said than done with a modded turbo 'yikes')

Interesting poll results.

Fine paid

Got done 1hr later in city by parking inspector ( I misread the parking sign that for all the signs on it resembled a christmas tree)

another $50 for them......theyll need it to help pay their 18% wage increase.
