Seeing there are a few car buffs here, I have a question.

Why does this Fairlane have blacked out headlights?
What spec or whatever makes it have these?
What others ('cause i have found VERY few) had them as well?

The FTE TL50s were relased with the tinted headlights as standard!

Yeh the Tickford versions were the only models to get black bezelled headlights, pretty certain.

i found out what it was;

'millenium edition' fairlane ghia - a limited edition model, from what ive found the only other model apart from the T-series to get them.

Looking for a 'new' car soon;
(getting rid or Mrs' Getz, have a VN exec on LPG as a 'possible' replacement as itll be cheap, otherwise......)

MUST be LPG compatible and reasonably economic (Rules out gen3 and supercharged, i think)
LOTS of wanker options (either a Ghia of some sort, Berlina, Calais or Statesman)
PREFERABLY (but not essentially) a wagon (eliminates Fairlane, Calais and Statesman)
PREFER it to have leather.

Don't get a NA 3.8 V6 Statesman, not enough power for the size of the car. It at least needs the Supercharged 3.8, but don't think they can be converted to LPG. I'd look at a Berlina or Calais, more the Calais if you want leather, with the 3.8 NA V6. Although why are you getting rid of the Getz if you want economy?

size?.......

Size (carrying capacity, if i go wagon),
4 doors,
comfort,
features,
readily available and CHEAP rims and tyres,
V8 rumble(maybe)
with LPG itll be cheaper running costs than the getz (in either 6 or 8)
I can tow

Downside;
they are all freakin HUGE after driving a getz/barina for so long

Mrs wants go! so we are keeping the SRi and its very similar costs to run than the getz. It will become her daily driver, coz its little.

Personally I dont care about the amount of doors, (there is and will only ever be the 2 of us) as for passengers climbing iin and out, baad luuck!

Itll work like this, If i can get the VN Ill take it. If i need to loan (up to 23k,and considering Oz didnt get the 4 door SRi) Itll be a luxo barge. Im leaning towards the Ford products due to their LPG abilities.
My list of vehicles is something like this;
VT Berlina wagon (will need to really look to find the cow though) in a V8

VT-X as above in a NA V6

VT Statesman (MUST have cow, or not an option) in a V6

AU (with pref to a S2 or S3) Fairmont Ghia sedan/wagon in a 6 or 8

AU Fairlane Ghia 6 or 8
http://images.carsales.com.au/dealer/carsales/4533365.jpg
TE50 (only avail in an 8, S3 was 220kw)
http://images.carsales.com.au/dealer/carsales/4926449.jpg
TL50 (only avail in an 8, 200kw. S3 was 5.4lt, only 3 made. 1 in NZ, one re-engined to 5.0lt, the remaining would be WAY out of my league. Leaving S2 as the one)

How much does it cost to convert to LPG? Isn't the government willing to pay up to $1000 for conversions soon?

Oh and what about the Astra H CDTi? 1.9T diesel, apparently 850kms to a tank, as opposed to the average of 600ks I get to a full tank.

Its sort of like a wagon and you could fold the back seats down for extra space if there is only the 2 of you.

I really dont care about the govt thingie, What i want is the $25 400km trips.

Unfortunately the diesel doesnt fit into the sub 23k bracket and would probably still take $60 to fill.

I look at what i get and what it costs me, My 1.8 gets me pretty close to 420kms per fill of $55-$60. LPG is (for arguments sake, all considered) 1/2 that.

What I can see the Govt doing, is trying to increase the price of LPG using the laws of supply/demand.
They are doing it in a sneaky round about way by essentially offering a poisoned carrot.

All i want is sub $40 fillups and about 400km trips (which sees my working week out) and a safe way of doing it i.e. car not bike (I would not be 'safe' on a bike, I know myself :D)

How good is the mileage for LPG though? Never really paid much attention. Don't you need regular fillups?

Yes gas doesn't get as much distance as petrol so requires to be filled up more often. Gas should fit into your $40 for 400km a week budget, won't get a petrol V6 doing that, definetely not a V8 unless ur on the freeway! Fords E-gas cars are good and u should be able to get a BA E-Gas for $20000 but that is the base model so if u want options not a good choice!

I wouldn't go for any of the cars u suggested coz they drink fuel, unless u get the VT/VX Berlina or the Statesman in a V8 as aftermarket places are able to tune them to use alot less fuel than even a V6 but with heaps more power! I'd go in between and get a VT II Calais, my mate just got one, goes well and does 12L/100km before being tuned (and thats giving it some stick too!!)

From what i've found (personal experience) lpg gets 2/3rds the distance of petrol, but costs 1/3 the price. That was over a few different gas cars (V8 fords and V6 and V8 commys).

My driving habits are 2mins of regular street driving and then 25mins of cruise-controlled freeway then 2mins of street, and then home again (with the odd squirt of speed), 6 days a week.
Incidently, Ive gained about 50km/tank by changing jobs, but fill up 1xweek instead of 1x3weeks in the Barina.

So it will be consistent as.

Yes, all the ones ive chosen drink but they are all LPG compliant AND easily repairable, which is why I wont convert a 4door SXi or my SRi.
No-one (or VERY few) will be able to tune or fix it.
