Got the news today that the ah astra sri will be coming out in a 2.2lt version..

to be honest i dont really see the point now that the astras come with turbo diesels, which has the similar power and much more torque...

if you wanted something sportier, noting the weight increase of the AHs, just go for the AH turbo, which has dropped in price

i wish they would just fit the 2.2 as the Standard engine in all Non Turbo Astra's. Then it would kill everything else!!!

Would make far more sense to just fit the 100+kw 1.8L to the upspec Astras (CDX etc). Leave the 92kW version for the base CD spec.

AFAIK they don't put the 2.2L engine in the Astra in any of the european markets.

the 2.2 is pretty sluggish for a 2.2 ..well that's what I think anyway.

Much nicer to have a barn screaming 2L.. be a sweeter revving unit than the 2.2l.

This is manly due to the cost of fuel. and turbo diesels being more ecconomical over long trips as well as tax brakes and the such. The turbo diesel is also more nippyer than the 1.8 and if u are lookin for a 5 door the option is the petrol or the diesel and i know witch i would prefere

What tax breaks?

How much more is CDTi over a CD or CDX? How long to recoup your initial outlay?

The only thing that dissappoints me about the AH Astra is that mechanically its predominantly the same as the previous model. I agree that ditching th 1.8 in favour of the 2.2 with a six speed would make it better then it already is.

The 2.2 is used in europe still ? But your right there. considering the Viva is a 1.8 and cost about 5k less then the astra. Both have the same power out put. I actually know someone that just bought a Viva on Wednesday. Be interesting to see what they go like when she gets it.

no 2.2lt is coming out in the astra H here in the UK/ Europe, the 1.8 is being uprated from 123bhp to a new 140bhp power plant which could be what your hearing about

over the current 1.8lt
14 per cent more power, consumes four per cent less fuel, has improved flexibility and is a good deal more refined. The generous power output means the new 1.8-litre engine is one of the most powerful in this class, but its far from being a highly-stressed race engine with peaky power delivery. Thanks to that advanced valve and cam phasing technology, 90 per cent of the 175Nm maximum torque is available from 2,200 to 6,200 rpm.

I am sorry i didnt explain myself properly, Just jumpin in there.

I was mainly refering to how it is seen in Europe, with diesels selling more than petrol and as such. And being less polluting are treated different in road tax just not here

Yeh the changes will probably be like a few new colours, new wheel designs, maybe a few minor styling changes such as a different grille for an example.
