Hi All,

There is a new article on Carsguide....

http://carsguide.news.com.au/story/0,20384,19515286-21822,00.html

Compares the Astra SRi to the XR5... I won't let the cat out of the bag and ruin it. I do think both cars get a pretty good wrap though.

Cheers,
Miyagi

That's a very interesting read, although as they say, the Xr5 should be compared to the similarily powered VXR Astra.

And maybe an uprated Xr5 FPV version, well that will be very interesting indeed, since it has a 2.5ltr engine to play with....interesting times ahead for the hot hatch market.

there is a huge difference over the SRi and VXR trust me even though its only 40bhp difference but the 200bhp engine is still a nice motor

as terrible as this sounds on an opel forum.... i think i like the focus better

*puts on flame suit*

it just seems to be a nicer car, inside and out... and it does have 5 doors... and the boost guage and other guages stock... i think i like it enough to wanna go and have a test drive :D

but its $1000 more expensive, leather is an option (where it is standard with heated seat in the SRi), there is no drivers foot rest and cruise control is not available. Also you have to pay a stoopid $1800 if u want it in orange.

Oh, and if u do opt fro the leather in the XR5, you only get two rear seats.
Kinda defeats the purpose of it being a five door.

Yeah but it's meant to be a better drive, whereas the SRi goes for a luxo compromise. And I like the two bucket style rear seats that come with the leather - I can't remember the last time I had 5 in the car anyway...

But I agree, the $1,800 is a lot for orange, especially considering no-one will want it within 2 years (as seems to happen with all orange cars), and the lack of Cruise is poor.

Still, I think I'd go for the XR5 over the SRi...

but then we come to the issue of insurance... the astra is 2L 4cyl, the XR5 is 2.5L 5cyl... im still under 25 and i remember a year ago before i bought my corolla when one of my other options was an Astra G SRIT that pretty much only Just Cars would cover me... and it was about $2300 or soomething.

if money was no issue tho boys you would probably have to say the XR5, if it stands the test of time, we know the astra engines are still going strong, lets see how the volvo goes with young guys driving it like it should be driven

hell, it might be easier to find mechanics that know what to do with the volvo engine to get the most out of it... we have had troubles finding mechanics for the opel engine

Apologies about that. I could swear when they were doing the promo for the next show they said Astra VXR v's Focus XR5.
