I have just traded my 1991 Mazda MX5 for a 2003 Barina SRi.
I have never owned a European car before.
However, I am enjoying the luxuries offered by the Barina - roof, heater, being able to sit on a dry seat during wet weather...
The MX5 was modifed with Tein springs, KYB AGX shocks, a Sparco/Razo interior and Work RS Beta alloys.
So far the Barina is stock but I am interested in modding it.
Any suggestions for the first mod?

congrats on the purchase :)

first step is derestrict the air intake (ie remove resonator box)

second step is derestrict the exhaust :)

then dump and rims :)

Welcome to the site,
nice to have another silver SRi around.

i have H&R springs up for sale soon, will be looking around $300 mark for them, they have been used for 6000 km, so pretty much still brand new.
I had them in my SRi, lowered it around 1 - 2 inches, and it handled amazingly compared to stock.
only reason why im selling them is that im probly going to get a fully adjustable coil overs
p.m me if your interested

Thanks for the advice.
I am going to stick with the std. springs atm.
About rims, the current set are 4 x 100 PCD ET49.
Is that correct?
What is the best offset for a wider (say 6.5" or 7") rim?
I am currently looking at a set of Enkei RPF1s (17x7 ET45).

On this issue, how do I change the front emblem?
The Holden logo seems to be molded into the plastic of the grill.

either buy a whole new opel grill or improvise and make your own backing plate :)

Thanks. I might try some sanding.
And see how that goes.
if I mess it up, I can buy the Opel grill.

17x7 ET45 is probably your best bet as far as making sure you have a decent range to chose from and not sacrificing handling...

call the RTA in ACT to double check what you legally can do and your insurer...

17x7 ET45 is legal in nsw :) but i think its good to check for piece of mind

Thanks. I will check it out with the rego people.
In general the ACT road rules follow NSW standards, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Welcome mate, nice to see another Corsa/Barina. In terms of modifications, get a performance replacement air filter such as a K&N item, put on a sports exhaust, and as said above de-restrict the airbox.

haha not everyone has the money to do MAJOR mods. Anyway if everyone did that you wouldn't be the only SS eating beep beep! :D

No you cant, the '03 grille isnt separate like the '04, its part of the bumper.

Okay. What is the best way tochange the front badge to an Opel one?

theres a few posts here about it but basically you remove the holden one and use a thin flat plastic or mesh in between the new opel one and the bumper.

You need the plastic/mesh to hide the lion symbol thats continued onto the bumper from the grille.

Thanks for all the advice.
Right now I am looking at some tyres to replace the odd set currently on the car.
That will chew up my finances for a while.
