"Slow sales are blamed for GM's decision to cease the sale of Opel brand cars on japanese car market...
just ten years ago Opel cars were the best selling brand from GM stable. The record sales were in 1996, with 38 thousand models sold. Last year (2005) sales reached only 1800 Opel cars. The first quarter of 2006 had further slump in sales - only 382 cars - thats 46.9% less than the same time last year.
the end of 2006 will signal the end of Opel in Japan. GM blames poor exchange rate between Yen and Euro.
Other GM brands, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Hummer and Sabb (so called Global Platform) will remain on sale in Japan."
