It is possible that HSV will offer the Milltek performance exhaust as an option, as Vauxhall offer it in the UK.

i have been informed by the VXR Brands Manager here in the UK that they will be sending a milltek across for HSV to trial, just on the exhaust note itself it is well worth it

I wish to inform all people of Opel AUS that the HSV VXR's are now showing up in our Dealer Order stock list.

I have spoken to HSV who say the cars will arrive first week of September.

I will be sending an E Mail to HSV to see if infact there is a VXR in Oz and if possible if we can get the car to our dealership or to somewhere where we can arrange a preview and possible drive of it for Opel Aus members interested in purchasing.

No dealer yet has one, i have been told that the cars will arrive in Oz first week of September. It will then depend on whether HSV do any local modifications to the cars before they hit showroom, as to when you see the cars in Showrooms.

I'm still interested in hearing what sort of things OpelAus members would like to be part of the package that i'm putting together for members wishing to purchase a VXR.

Please PM me with suggestion. Please be reasonable with them however, as these vechile will be in very short supply please don't be expecting huge discounts, however we would like to work out a package with MAYBE a small discount and POSSIBLY a few extra's that all interested parties can agree on eg Tint, Mats ect ect.

As soon as i have any more information i will let you all know :D

Ok guys i can give you the score on the VXR now after spending all day in one yesterday. I was lucky enough to arrange a meet with Aussie_in_London yesterday and some of the crew on Astra-sri.co.uk . WOW .. The car is awesome.. Forget the the Clarkson "Understeer" issue. Shane was driving one handed through roundabouts and changing gear and the car did not struggle with grip one bit.

Damian i have to say this... The Golf GTi with DSG is going to be no match for the VXR...

Even in standard trim the VXR has plenty of straight line speed and handles extremely well...

This will not disapoint. I was thinking about the XR5 Focus but i have made my mind up. VXR all the way... If you would like some more info about my ride in the VXR PM and i will be happy to share it with you...

will the aussie version have the overheating problem fixed at all?

and i have no doubt tha the VXR will outgun the GTi if it didnt then i would be very concerned that is for sure.

I agree with you . These "Plasticky " Interior comment about the VXR are rubbish. if thats the case the SRi T must be the same. The share common Interior parts. IE Main Dash Compoents and surrounds.

Sat Nav Isnt Standard in The UK . Its an Option but i dont believe sat nav will be an option in Australia.

Now as for this rubbish about a Cheap Plastic interior im going to put it all to rest. The cars are not Cheap looking on the inside. The interior is actually rather trendy and stylish. The colour of the seats are darker then the photos show. The one displayed by HSV was a Pre-Production model. Lots of things changed on the Production model. Now im going to say this to you all. Reserve all comment until you see an actual production model. i remember saying a few months ago that the SRi T was rather soft looking in the sense of the body kit wasnt aggressive at all. Holden now are all using a 2007 Spec Kit for the SRi that Europe will go to in the 4th qtr of 2006 .

After seeing the car with this kit i find it alot more Aggressive then the earlier models of the SRi T in Europe.

Those of you that are waiting to see what price the VXR is or are in love with the VXR all i have to say is the wait will be worth it. I spent close to 10 hours with Shane whilst in london. and about 6 of those 10 hours were spent riding round in his VXR. The car HAS No UNDERSTEER like we have seen with Clarkson from Top Gear. keep in mind people that it was a SRi T spec Suspension fitted to the car when that test was concluded.

all and all the HSV VXR is going be a very nice over all package.

Miyagi
4th July 2006, 05:39 PM
In the interior stakes, i think both the XR5 and VXR could take some styling points from the GTI.

I like the dash and sat-nav in the VXR though, it's a more polished look than the XR5. Prefer the Recaro's in the XR5 though...

One of my biggest wise list as an option for the HSV VXR would be factory fitted Xenon headlight. It will make me throwing in a deposit to this car straight away!!!

Any idea of colour options for the VXR?? I'm really interested in the Blue and the black ones. I'm not too keen on the flaming red.

Aussie in London, Does your VXR has the 18inch or 19inch Rims? Somewhere I read that the HSV VXR comes with 18inch rims and cost extra for the 19s.

In the UK the VXR Astra comes standard with the 18's with 19's as an option, with the HSV VXR i'm pretty sure 19's are standard.

I have read that too about the 18 inch rims too. But i think the article refers to a Vauxhall VXR Astra. Not a HSV

aussie_in_london
20th July 2006, 06:46 PM
the standard ic is not a bad unit and is bigger and better positioned over the zlet, performance wise, the only way i can see you making any gains will be to have the ecu mapped to make use of the lower inlet temps and increase the boost as already stated, other than that will keep the turbo cooler and prevent ignition retarding with increased inlet temps, it would be something i would consider more so living in Aus with higeher summer temsp but then you will find a much cheaper option than what has ben released in the UK, TMS are about to release are larger fmic made by pace that will be in the region of £500 - £600.

MatsHolden

Question:
Found this article, not sure how true it is;
Astra In Demand
James Stanford
14 July 2006
www.carsguide.com.au

The controversial decision to sell a hot hatch Astra as a Holden Special Vehicle is proving popular. The first 100 turbo Astra VXRs are due next month and all have been sold.
HSV managing director Phil Harding says the first shipload has not come close to satisfying demand.
"We have had orders placed for well over twice that," he says.
The decision to import the VXR, developed by the Opel Performance Centre in Germany, is bold given that HSV's recent line-up has included only V8 models.
But Harding insists the four-cylinder VXR hatch will fit into the HSV line-up alongside the 6.0-litre V8 sedans and utes based on the Commodore and Statesman. "We thought the HSV brand could sit on something that has the performance of the VXR, so we are still keen and obviously the take-up of the car is very encouraging," Harding says.
HSV aims to sell about 250 Astra VXRs a year.
"We will always keep (VXR) supply less than demand so that it is seen as something exclusive," Harding says.
The VXR, sold as a Vauxhall in Britain, will be the cheapest model in the HSV range at about $43,000.
It arrives at a time Australians are spoilt for choice when it comes to hot turbo hatches.
These include the Volkswagen Golf GTi (147kW), Megane Renault Sport (165kW), Focus XR5 (166kW), Holden Astra SRi (147kW) and the new Mazda3 MPS (190kW).
The HSV VXR drops into the mix with a 176kW force-fed four-cylinder engine.
"I think our VXR has quite a lot of street presence and a great chassis, so it will take a lot of beating," Harding says.
The Astra VXR has 18-inch alloy wheels or optional 19-inch rims and a body kit with deeper bumpers and a large rear spoiler.
It has Recaro seats, carbon-fibre dashboard inserts, sports suspension and larger brakes.
There's also a sport mode that sharpens the throttle response and stiffens the power steering resistance

I guess this raises a couple of questions for me;

1. I have pre-ordered from my local hsv dealer, when will they know their allocation?? Or is the comment about demand false? or just a marketing tactick? 2. They have always said the 19's will be standard, now they have made it an option?? what else will change from previous spec's shown on your website?

Thank you
Rudolph K

Answer:
Dear Rudolph

Thank you for your email.

Please contact HSV on ******** to speak to your Regional Sales Manager.

Kind regards

HSV

After speaking with the regional sales manager, he confirmed;

1. 19's are standard in the hsv model
2. They have 150 cars coming for the 1st-2nd week of september and they have received orders for 220 cars!!!!!!!!!!!!! he claimed not 1 will hit a show room floor!
3. Final spec's will be released in the next 2-3 weeks through the dealer network

My advice to anyone else on Opelaus who has put a deposit on one to ring and make sure they are getting a car from the first allocation. or you might not get it until the new year.

If that's the case then people are going to be buying a car that they havn't been able to test drive? I know it recieves rave reviews but I'd want to sample it before forking out 43k plus on roads.

Driven the old mans new turbs plenty.;) lol But I'd still want to drive a VXR not just to see how it performs handling and power wise, but to see if I could live with it everyday, with items such as the 19" alloys. Not that I need to worry, I won't be investing in a VXR for a number of years haha.

I hope so. I just want to know the price so i can work out what im going to do.

This all seems too familiar.

Sounds like Holden are looking to do a similar pathetic job at releasing the VXR into Australia as what Ford did with the XR5 Turbo. :(

I'm starting to think that the VXR is a bit overpriced. I rather get a WRX for 41000 driveaway. Being a 4WD and faster I think the WRX has an advantage over both the VXR or the MPS.

Don't get me wrong, I love the VXR, but just the price to pay for a couple, I don't see it to be a better car compare to the REX.

WRX has an Out dated interior. Something you would have expected in a car back in 1995. The exterior is neat now with the upgrade. But i think for 40,000k + orc you are only paying for power . With the MPS and The VXR your paying for the comfit levels

The other issue i find hard to swallow with the WRX is the insurance when you are under 25!!!

Ive got a feeling the VXR wont be that cheap or easy to insure if your under 25. those 3 letters HSV will push the prices up.

i doubt it mate, but we will see closer to the date.

The wrx has a un-usually higher then normal risk profile due to the number of write-off's and thefts - something that hsv's probably don't have... but i could be wrong (hope not).

sammykkwok
7th August 2006, 02:30 PM
Yes, I totally agree that the WRX has really really outdated interior, but its still functional, and with some practical useable space. Been driving the AH Astra for 1.5 yrs now, I can say storage space is pathetic.. and unluckily, the VXR is going to be the same. :(

Would be nice to see VXR offer some space improvement to the VXR like a bigger and a useable cupholder on the door (to replace the useless one we got for the AH at the moment) and some in dash storage areas.. But I know its going to be very unlikely that we will ever get them, given the VXR in the UK is still troubled by the lack of storage space. :(

Look wise, the VXR is the killer!

I have a feeling that the VXR is going to have an insurance cost of equal or higher than the REX.... reasons are that the standard wheels are 19inch, its a HSV, a pricier car, higher power to weight ratio... but seriously don't know how insurance company work out their prices.

Yeh you can bet that the VXR will be about equal on the insurance front with the WRX. As Shaun said because it is an HSV that'll jack it up and also because it is a turbo...

not neccessarily..

its more to do with claims than the brand

i.e. my turbo cost ~$200 more to insure than std astra

sammykkwok- purchase price of a car has little to do with the premiums, i know that i can insure a new bmw 3 series for the same price as my astra and a Porsche Boxster is cheaper to insure than a sti/evo

why? lower claims because bmw/porsche drivers are less likely to be careless with their cars and scrap/crash it

Miyagi
7th August 2006, 05:10 PM
As the VXR only comes in 2 door version it'll also cop further hatred from insurance companies... :(

It'll be interesting to see how much more to insure it is than the XR5T, which by all accounts has been very reasonable.

so i HOPE that means;

3-4 weeks on the water (hopefully)
2 weeks being compliance checked etc

so we could have them in our garages in 5-6 weeks, which puts us about mid to late september, which is when i expected it.

well you will be in for a suprise going from a excel into a VXR lol

with the shipping they will make sure that it is full before sailing so it will be dependent on what is destined for Aus at that time and when it will sail.

I don't think they do..... but again we just have to wait for the final product to land.... something that i did pick up from looking @ photos is that the VXR might not have heated seats, because of the cloth inserts! :( - where the SRiT has full leather and therefore has heated seats!!!

But again, we just have to wait for the final product, HSV have always said the interior package may change for australia! so we just wait i guess.... aussie in london can you confirm that yours doesnt have heated seats like the sriT?

yes opt for the full cow and heated seats are included (mind you there is the wiring for pads to be fitted to the half leather if you wish to do, in all honesty i was going to go for the full but prefered the look and feel of the half leather, now on the xenons, they are an option over here which includes adaptive forwarding lighting, great system but standard lighting does just as well

Pre delivery takes a couple of Hours . The do a Basic Check and thats it. Tints take a day. I say you would have your VXR within about a Week of it arriving in the dealership yard. Push your dealer when they show up for it to be done .

Also ask HSV what there hold up is. They were claiming in a E Series Chat site last night that the VXR has Arrived Last week and they were being shipped to the dealers this week. I Believe that its noting more then HSV holding off on the car being on the market till the start of Next month. Unless ADR changes need a final ammendment. I would say its to make an Offical Release next month. Would make it 12 Months since they were originally shown at the Sydney Motorshow.
Dont give up now. You have waited this long. im sure that two more weeks wont make much of a difference. would be a shame to pull out of it now and then change your mind and want one after the 1st batch has sold and have to wait till the second or 3rd batch arrive like im going to do because i went overseas this year.

1. the specs i have seen say tinted windows, is it a good tint or just a grey glass?

2. you posted some pics on www.hsvvxr.com (http://www.hsvvxr.com) and i noticed that the black vxr has silver mirrors, why is that? or what it just the lighting?

aussie_in_london

If you look in almost ever car brochure in Australia it will say "Tinted Windows"

It doesn't mean that they come with the film tinting i think you are thinking of.

The ADR's require manurfacturers to have a minimum tint in their glass.

Guys went and Looked at a Red VXR today.
Open up the doors and the Steering wheel was Badged as An Opel and the Dash was an OPC Dash with the bottom half of the Steering wheel a VXR and Gear leaver as a VXR. and out side as a HSV .(The car is confused it seems)

Those that are picking up a VXR or have Access to look at one (Kurt) can you please Post up a Picture of the Steering wheel and Dash.

Be Intrested to see if this Car at the dealership i was in today has been landed in the wrong country.

PS Guys: They have a Build Plate on the cars.

This Morning. Dealership i went to Said 1st Batch will be like they are and from the second Batch they will Be HSV on the Inside. Bit of a Let Down for a 47k Car. So They will change the inside a to Holden Badge or a HSV Badge with a VXR Dash like in the UK?

Wish there were some straight answers... Im guessing we will know tomorrow when RudeOne takes delivery.

Once thing is for sure though. Seats are much more confy then a SRi T G seat. Love the Recaros. Memorys of a Confy seat in Shanes car in England came straight back to me this morning .

i wouldnt opelise it, atleast being a HSV its a limited stock as such, the OPC isnt, plus we dont have any build numbers as does the HSV, so i would be wonting it corrected or the car will end up with an identity complex lol
the OPC interior has blue stiching on the steering wheel, seats, door cards, gear knob and blue carbon effect trim on the dash and doors, sounds like a quality control fault to me or someone had to many largers during final inspection : )

how could they **** up 150 cars????????

Its Possable. Kurt is checking the ones at his Dealership tomorrow. When you get yours Rudi you will see what i mean. The OPC Dash has OPC rather then VXR. OPC dash is Blue rather then red (Refering to Instrument cluster) The OPC Spec Cluster has Opel Preformance Centre in the Tach .

Shaun
4th October 2006, 12:38 AM
It just accoured to me. It could be to do with the UK Vauxhall Product has MPH as thats the Messurement they use in the UK. In Europe KM/H is the mesurement used. That could be the reason behind the Clusters being in the OPC Spec.

Your all wrong, it depends on who spends the most on advertising in that particular magazine, so it will be the mazda 3 mps hands down.......

i have driven the mps3 and now the vxr, and all i can say is im glad i waited..... i dont want to say bad things about the MPs3 because its a good car, but my hands down choice is the vxr, even over the golf, jetta, megane and focus....!

im going out now to take pics.... hope the boss doesnt mind ;)

yeah your right the mazda will most likly win but will be close with the VXR.

Its the inside that lets the vxr down for me the outside looks mean especially in blue love that blue.

The mazda is great al rounder and 2 me is in front of the VXR but the GTI wins hands down for me(actually the audi S3 would win) its all due to the DSG im in love with that box its great, the fact that its slower and might not look as mean as the rest dont bother me one bit.

im sure the bosses wouldnt mind you taking some happy snaps of ya new pride and joy.

Nice looking car mate I think it looks great in black….but im a little bias.
That silver trim under the side windows will help differentiate it from the SRi, the stock black trim on mine looks crap.

Im sure some better quality pictures and a polish up will do it more justice.:)

I went to our local HSV dealer today and was told they have no idea when the VXR will come here (NZ) something about lack of serious interest, we don’t get the Focus XR5 either. Strange.
