HI all. Just wanted to wish everyone here at OA a Great Easter, But Remember Double demerits apply.

Got this info below
(Nsw)

Double demerits apply over the Easter long weekend
12-04-2006
Five days of double demerit points will be in force over the Easter holiday period to improve road safety on the state’s roads.
An RTA spokesperson said speeding, seatbelt and helmet offences would attract double demerit points from midnight Wednesday, 12 April to midnight Monday, 17 April inclusive.
A press, radio and State-wide television advertising campaign warning drivers of the consequences of speeding and not wearing a seatbelt would air prior to and during the double demerit point period.
“Double demerits have proven to be a significant deterrent to motorists from speeding and failing to wear a seatbelt or helmet at a time when roads are at their busiest,” the spokesperson said.
“Since the introduction of double demerits in 1997, there has been a 27 per cent reduction in fatalities in holiday periods such as long weekends, Christmas, New Year and Easter.
“Results from previous community surveys show high levels of awareness and support for the double demerit points scheme and the majority of people surveyed believed that the initiative reduced the road toll.
“Last year 504* people were killed on the state’s roads and we urge everyone travelling on the road network over the Easter long weekend to drive safely.
“P-plate drivers are reminded they are at the greatest risk of losing their licence during this period and that novice drivers are subject to a zero alcohol limit.”
Key double demerit points that will be in force are:

Exceed speed limit by no more than 15km/h – 6 points.
Exceed speed limit by 16-30km/h - 6 points.
Exceed speed limit by 31-45km/h - 8 points.
Exceed the speed limit by more than 45km/h - 12 points.
Driver not wearing own seatbelt - 6 points.
Driver points for each passenger not wearing a seatbelt - 6 points.
Rider on a motorcycle without own helmet - 6 points.
Rider points for passenger on a motorcycle not wearing a helmet – 6 points.
The spokesperson said “During the Easter long weekend last year more than 11,780 motorists were issued with penalty notices which incurred double demerit points.
“Over this same period, 1,430 motorists had their licence suspended because they exceeded their points limit.”
The spokesperson said fatigue continued to be a major factor in the road toll and motorists travelling long distances should take regular breaks from driving.

Thanks guys have a good Weekend!

thats a bit harsh for the P platers, Bastards........they just want more money, it isnt gonna impact the road tolls that much, acidents happen, ppl are Idiots, ppl speed ppl crash ppl die, its part of haveing a mass of ppl driveing around in steel boxes, from what ive seen on the roads so far this easter, it hasent stoped many ppl from speeding  Lets keep amping up the fines untill no one at all has a licence, wouldnt that be great :D

My poiny for this rant is, Its happened to me once or twice, been cruiseing along haveing a nice drive, not paying to much attention to the speedo going down a sligght hill, FLASH f@cking speed camera only 12 k over but still 3 points without this double demerat crap! Realy in my view its unfair for the P platers with only 4 points to there name.

is that ad nation wide? or the slogan nation wide?

enough is enough - or something like that.

Hmm, the thing is, no matter what the fine, or how many points, it won't stop people speeding. Don't they realise this. Because they are the people who just drive unlicenced if they have to, and think NOTHING of it.
