Hi guys,

just wondering if you can have a look inside your fuel filler cap and tell me what you have written for the tyre rating.
it should be something like

205/50 R16 XXV?

i would like to know what the stock 2.2 sri's with 16 inch rims have a tyre load rating of.

cheers

reason why i ask is. i have put the 16 inch alloys on and the tyres are 205/50 R16 87V
now my original tyres were 195/60 R15 88H.
how legal is this and also with car insurance? since i have gone down from 88 to 87 load rating (difference of 10kg per tyre i belive)

I believe its minimum 86 so you should be right with 87. People with 18's tend to go for 215/35's but I could only find 84's so I went 225's to keep my load rating. As long as you meet the minimum requirement then you shouldnt have any insurance dramas.

In Vic, you cannot lower the load rating without making the car unroadworthy.

So, if you have gone down in load rating your car, in Vic, would be uninsured in case of an accident.

You need to use the rating (or better) shown on the placard for your car. Not a different model.

ok the funny thing though is this.
on the astra g cdx models, they come with 16 inch wheels with tyres 205/50R16 87V, now my astra which is the same car except for the internal features (meaning its lighter) has a 15 inch tyre rating of 88H.

so where is the legality and sense in that?
thats the same with the convertibles, they are a heavier car but only have a 87V tyre on them?

ok can i get someone with a sri model or a cdx model (with 16 inch tyres) to have a look at the tyre placard on the fuel flap and tell me what is says as the minimum load rating on there?

called the RTA, how silly is this, i have to have a tyre load rating of minimum 88 (560kg) even though the astra CDX came out with 16inch tyres with a load rating of 87V. its exactly the same car as mine except without the leather seat, climate control etc etc. (and i think its its heavier so how does that work)
