got into an argument yesterday wif my step dad about what car is the fastest off da start & in a straight line... his Smart forfour 1.3L or my Atra H Coupe 1.8L

The result.....

after gunning it on a straight road for 80meters i could have parked a semi trailer between the two of us (the smart car infront)

Think ill go find out how much the 1.5L Turbo Smart forfour is retailing for & a trade in figure for my car.... Totally shocked/disapointed with that outcome, but i still luv my car no matter how slow she is:)

SRi Barina is quicker and faster, fuel economy 7.8 and 5.4 respectively
I bet the smart has 2 cupholders though :( and that they are not designed to dump the contents on takeoff.

7.8seconds 0-100km????????????

I didnt say that, i was refering to the fuel economy city/highway.

Still faster to 100km/h than a smart.

Except for the GSXR1000 conversion versions.......now that would be a hoot.

Hi there guys.

I've got the naturally aspirated 1.5L forFour and I gotta say the car has quite a personality when driving. The semi-automatic gearbox is NOT smooth but if you get used to the strange gear ratios, the car is quite a hoot to drive. I can see it being faster in acceleration than an Astra H however with top-end speed the Astra wins hands down. The Astra H is just too heavy for the little Ecotec engine these days.
The Brabus forFour will give even the Golf GTi a run for it's money as well being so light and does look unique. I love the smart cars as much as my Astra and if you EVER have the chance to drive a smart Roadster, DON'T PASS IT UP. on ordering my forFour, smart let me drive the Roadster for 3 weeks. Chick Magnet ;)

The Roadster is 0.7L 3-cylinder Turbo and around 690kg. It does the 0-100km/h in about 10.8 seconds though. Nothing to brag about since the car was built to look cool. The Standard Brabus pack actually doesn't do much except add accessories throughout the car, it's the performance pack you're after! The SB2 option I think it was. It's rare to find a properly tuned Brabus Roadster now since the car was on the market for such a short time.

If you want to see something hoon, some guy down in Victoria modded the forTwo to fit Dual 3-cylinder engines. All you need is to add some glider wings!

I love small cars because of the handling characteristics and frugal fuel usage. If you like small roadsters check out the classic Suzuki Cuppucino (it looks like a Mini MX-5!). And of course go book a test drive for a MINI Cooper (normal and S). So much fun!

in Oz, lots, i heard someone made a good living bringing them in cheap under grey import until mercedes decided to ruin it (they retailed them at something stupid instead of a realistic sub $18k)

Have driven a Smart Fortwo and a Smart Roadster. I like the Roadster. a fun car on a twisty road. what it lacks in straight line speed it makes up in the twist and turns. I could have had one through work for 20k with about 3,000km on it if i had flown down to melbourne. When Daimler Chrysler introduced them to the Australian Market they were added to our internal Lease Car program. Many people leased them at the time as it was almost summer ( 6 Month lease for employees that work for Daimler Chrysler Australia Pacific) and they had an action of about 40 smart cars after they were returned to the company at the end of the lease.

as for the fortwo they are great idea if you live in the city . cheap to run and easy to park in tight parking spots.

Roadsters Retailed fro around 40k on the road (Ceased Production in December 2005)
Fortwo about 22k on the road
Forfour about 26-27k on the road.

Untrue... it was far more expensive (fortwo) before Merc started to officially import them
