Hi, just thought I would share that I bought at Japanese auction in Tokyo yesterday a 2001 EVO VII with 44,000km on the clock and aftermarket alloys.
It's being shipped to Brisbane for compliancing, then over to Perth.

Please see pics below.

I didn't care too much about the colour - it's an EVO no matter what the colour.
Black cars are much more expensive at auction, then yellow cars then red or blue... so I went white or silver and voila.
I expect to get it in March and I will sell it when I get back from Japan in late April (I am off on holiday and to buy a few aftermarket parts not readlily available in Australia for the EVO).
I'll let people know when it will be for sale in Perth and at what price.

I live and work in Perth and I'm only going over to Japan for holidays March thru to April.
My friend who is an importer here in Perth has an agent working for him in Tokyo - I purchased it through him.
Car will be on the ship soonish I have been told - so it won't wait in the warehouse long - a risk for parts disappearing etc off the car. By the end of the month it'll be landed in Brisbane and one week for compliance - then car transporter over to Perth (and it will next be licensed and paperwork etc).

Yep a fine colour, I do like black but white will be a nice change and I agree - the wheels look a little cheesey in gold. I will have a look at Japanese rims when I am over in Osaka and Tokyo in case I might upgrade - I wonder what colour rim will suit best - e.g. shadow chrome or silver, chrome or black...hmmm

I am confused... I thought there were strict rules on importing cars. In fact don't they have to be over 15 yrs old?

It will be great fun - gotta learn the car tho - all that power and manual 5 speed - I want to look after the gearbox and clutch especially - that's why tiptronics are the go in Japan in stop/start traffic - all EVO VII's produced in 2002 were tiptronic (Porsche tiptronic was used).
Happy to take it down to kwinana for some track work - will eat SRis and T's for brekky - then I can see how bad really my launches are lol...

How bout these black rims? I imported from Japan for my mate - who is my EVO importer (They came unlogo'd).

I am confused... I thought there were strict rules on importing cars. In fact don't they have to be over 15 yrs old?

Imported car rules limit what you can bring in - specialist cars (I think sports classification) are allowed (under quota I believe), as they are in a special import class.
I could've chosen from any car at secondhand market/auctions in Japan - there are even new EVO IX for sale with low kms on the clock - secondhand.
The Skyline with the black rims in the pic I just posted is imported.
You can get a 1yr old EVO VIII easy - I just got an EVO at the best price I could afford.
Other costs come in when compliancing and registering, and of course, you don't have a warranty! Lease companies won't touch "grey imports" - only those cars brought in by manufacturer dealers will be leased in Perth from my research.
I could only find EVO VIII's at Mitsubishi dealer in Perth and at $50,000.
So I bought a VII - better price and value.

looks good. i personally love white cars, well white astras anyways, i think it suits the shape. i reckon its the same for the lancer too. i would go shadow chrome, u dont get that shiny plastic look, but it still looks the biz IMO.

if you r interested in any info regarding importing from Jap. Before I bought the SRiT, I was thinking about importing through these guys. Was thinking of getting a Pulsar GTiR or a Supra JZ. But with insurance/rego considerations...and the fact that the GTiR does about 300km to 1 tank I opted for a compromise...the car my wife always wanted - Astra, with the performance I always wanted!

Anyhoo...that site is great just for the info re: all the importing rules and stuff!

There was the Evo VII GT-A which had the auto gearbox.Well bugger me... I was wrong.

Who in thier right mind would consider buying one, however?! An auto EVO is like buying a Ferrari with snow chains on it :p

break, i would assume someone who loves performance cars but doesnt like manual's, or has some sort of disability in their left leg, would buy an auto EVO..

Nice upgrade.....

You'll have lots of spirited driving fun with that thing.

I'm actually waiting for the release of the Mk10 Evo - seen pics and it looks fantastic IMO.

Up until recently, I wanted to really get a hold of the new VXR Astra, but after seeing the Lan Evo Mk 10, I think I'll stretch the budget, if it ends up looking anything like the one doing the rounds in Japanese motor shows ATM.

break, i would assume someone who loves performance cars but doesnt like manual's, or has some sort of disability in their left leg, would buy an auto EVO..How big of a market is that?

The majority of the people who would have bought these would have been people who wanted the car as a status thing, not for the driving experience.

Thanks for the info - I asked my colleague who's importing the car for me - he knows the guy who runs the business above. The Import101 fella has no plates for EVO's tho' apparently.

I'm really happy with the great price I paid in Tokyo - it was really easy to pick what I wanted and I got that. I am getting a bargain compared to buying secondhand at a Mitsubishi dealer. Happy to give a referral to my importer if anyone is interested - for anywhere in Australia - doesn't hurt to compare prices and vehicles.

Auto EVO's pop up at the rate of about 4 a day in Tokyo auctions - many Japanese can't drive stick - or the traffic is so congested there's no point having a manual cos they are always changing up and down and crawling along - I've seen this as I been to Japan and rode around with my mate in the Skyline and his mum's RX7.
So Manuals are quite popular - look at all the Skylines and Soarers that are Auto....

The EVO X will be expensive - but it's a beaut car.
I'm going to try and look after my EVO - but taking it down south for some gravel work will be irresistable...maybe I should get a car bra - colour-coded of course...

Thanks...and no worries - I'll wave to you...while sitting in my Recaro seats... better still you can buy my EVO off me then people will think YOU suck lol :-P :-)

It's going to be fun to take it to Uni...all those pretender Lancers....lol

It's not a bad upgrade from an SRi - it was either this or wait for the VXR...

The great thing with Evos is they're so incredibly understated. Really.

I mean how many times have you seen a Lancer ES or GLi dressed up in an Evo kit, only to be disappointed when you get up close and find out what it really is?

An Evo is a double-take machine. I know every time I see one out and about I have to look again, just to confirm what I thought it was... then there's a half hour period after where I am so excited for seeing a REAL LIFE EVO!!!

Enjoy that car. Enjoy wiping the smiles of the faces of the ignorant who think you've taken the cheapskate option, and enjoy their looks of surprise when you're kicking dust in their faces.

:)

Exactly how I felt... I was awestruck every time I saw a real one as there aren't that many in Perth - well not compared to WRX's or STi's.

I got it for similar reasons to the SRi (before the T came out) -
1. Not a common car,
2. Great value on import compared to a dealer-offered EVO VIII or VXR,
3. Looked and went better than the standard (Astra) everyone else has,
4. The EVO is not a garish car (and mine is white and sedan-ish)- so won't get the unwanted attention from 'most' boy racers and the Cops (everything complied and ADR'd - no need for 'permits' or engineering certificates as it's 'plated ),
5. Is the real thing, not a car kitted-up to look like it,
6. Quality build/finish - they are much better than ordinary Lancer fit&finish!

It will be soo much fun yes, I can't wait!

Well, as I posted in another thread, about 40% less than a secondhand 2004/2005 EVO8 and an 8 with 4K more km's.

I can refer you to my importer for complete figure if you are interested in buying (I don't want to prejudice my selling price later this year).

Black. Easy decision. It'll offset against the white paint and look schmicko... especially with the black vents in the bonnet, and the darkest legal tint (which I will assume you either have already put on, or are booked in for :) )

Yeah I'm leaning to those black rims. They are not for export so I will buy a set of 5 when I am over in Japan (assuming I can fit one in the wheel-well as a spare). Undecided as to go 17"s or 18"s.

Oh, it's got light tint in Japan - I will see how dark it actually is when I get it.
Also I will check if the cars' suspension has been modded - the buyer agent thinks it has aftermarket shocks/coils to lower it from factory.
It's got an Apexera (Apexi) turbo timer http://www.apexera.co.jp/carlife/pro_apexi/electronics/autotimer.html and a boost controller (guage might have been removed tho). The auction buyer thinks it has exhaust sound control too (for those noise-controlled suburbs in Japan) - http://www.apexera.co.jp/carlife/pro_apexi/electronics/Decv.html
All very spanky for the $$'s (these are all like free extra's with the car).
