opel aus cruise to the snow!!!

ok, this is just a who's interested at this stage.
plan: as much of the opelaus forum as possible on a cruise.
where: home towns all over oz to perisher blue resort.
when: early september, 1st week of the off-peak season (to save money)
how long: time to cruise down, 5 1/2 day lift pass (sun lunch - fri nite) about 1 week.
costs: normally just over $1k, fuel, accom, ski pass n hire, food ect.
metting points: qld meet gold coast, cruise down through to sydney (liverpool), meeting sydney folk, then down to canberra meetin more, then down to cooma where the vic and sa people could meet up, then onto the snow.
we can stay in or just out of the snow, we stayed in the snow last time, a cheapish hotel (chalett) but damn they had good food, 3 course dinners n all.
so neinterested just post up and i'll edit this post, and for ne1 else, i hope all the people interested will nag ya till ya come :D

if you're looking for somewhere cheap, then you cant go past the station resort in jindy - they do good packages inclusive of everything!

then you can just car pool it up the mountain each day :)

i've been tryin to get hold of the place i went too last time, but they are away at the moment, but been on their site, $105 pp per nit, inc 3 course dina (bloody excelent) and cooked breky.
ski hire place right next door, and the lifts are within 200m. cheapish inside, aparently just being refurbished, but close to the snow, chep rates and 5 star meals, normally an option of 2, but all great.

the problem with tthe dates is, the week before is HEAPS dearer as it's still peak season, and the week after is when all the schools go, and the snow is starting to melt.

nah, take the quadchair all the way to the top, stopping off at mid station of course to get the $1 hot chocolates (before 10:30am) :D, then just cruise over to bluecow, just dont get lunch at bluecow, really pricey.

It's only Vic and Tas school holidays during that time.

Forget the Station Resort. Only bogans go to that place :) If you are going to stay in Jindabyne then stay in the town. At least you can find different places to eat/drink at night.

You could investigate Sponars Chalet. About 10mins (shuttle bus) from Perisher. Onsite parking, 2 meals a day included, heated pool and sauna. Relatively inexpensive though basic. Another place to check is Smiggens. There are a few lodges near the snow there and most have parking. It's a short t-bar ride to the Interceptor (Blue cow link) or Telemark(?)

Ski Tube... who mentioned that?!?!?!? eeeekkkk. Hideous contraption :)
You have skis (boards), use them. Quite easy to ski to/from Blue Cow.

Parachute etc at Guthega is great skiing, when there is a full cover of snow on it (which is rare-ish). Pity Guthega is only serviced by t-bars because there is some nice snow/slopes there. The bowl under the INterceptor chair is also great fun. Some nice tree runs to be had in that area. As well as the little known North Perisher Tbar.

also, just leave ur 18's on, wait to c if u need to run the chains before u change em. i have only ever used chains once (thats 1 time, for about 20mins) in my trips down. thats why this is a good week, snow is lightening, so it's not as cold, and rarely ice on the road.

last yr i did need them. never would of made it to thredbo with out them. i dont have the boot space to take them with me. i'll just change the fronts. there will be 2 more wheels if anyone else needs some. 5 stud only

true, i was in my veccy last time i went, so i had a lot more boot space. enough room for 2 wheels, a 4 cubic foot sub box, and all our gear :). but i used the rear seat for some gear, just bags n stuff, rest was in the boot.

I'm still checking finances. If I do go I'll most likely be going by myself (depending on if the missus gets time of work). If she can't should have a spare spot, just need to confirm time off work & finances first though....

i think most of us are in the same boat there.
just rewmember that the only definate is when u pay the full amount to the place, n even that isnt a definate.
ne1 that wants to go depending on finance's, just post that u do 'want' to go, and i'll add u to the list.
even i'm not a definate myself. it's a matter of, loosing 3 grand for the week, about 1 grand for the trip, and nopt earning the 2 grand working.
so it really depends on what i can afford closer to the time.

I was able to do a week down the snow until i went to Europe . I used 5 weeks of my 6 weeks i had up. But a weekend Thing i maybe able to do ?

most will prob go snowboarding. we can cruise around at nite n stuff too :), but i dont think there is many places to cruise there. could aslo do a day cruise or 2, but after such a long cruise there, is ne1 gonna want to cruise much more?

just thought i'd bring this forward for ppl like me who ask when its going to be


sunday the 17th til friday the 22nd.
at lodge 21 for $785, which is, 5 nites accomadation including cooked 3 course dina and cooked brekky, 5 1/2 day lift pass.
staying at lodge21 gives u a 10% discount on ski gear from the hire shop next door.
snow board, boots ect for the 5 days is $147, then with the 10% is $132, but if we get 10 people to book and state (from this group) they will give us 20% discount, which is 118.
the owner of lodge21 has told me that they have a carpark that they can let us use elsewhere, if u dont want to park in the snow, but i will be.
