banging in front end - vectra js II 2001

Hi all,

Have purchased a 2.6L 2001 vectra 2nd hand, and the day I got it, noticed what I thought was a suspension problem on the front right. When going over a bump it will knock, rattle or bang.

Pedders initially said steering rack.
Took it back under statutory warranty and the mechanic couldnt find the cause.

A Holden mechanic looked at it, and couldn't find the cause.

A different pedders looked at it and did a bump test (or something), and also couldn't find the cause.

They are happy to fix it, if I can find out what the problem is :(

Other than replacing the shocker, anyone have any ideas ?

Its probably the VERY common steering knocking noise that youre hearing. Its been looked un unsuccessfully numerous times. Something to do with tightening the bushes on the steering column. Not to sure, do a search for 'steering knock' at www.vvoc.com

thanks for the link.... I'm surprised all the "experts" weren't aware of the problem.


I'll see if I can get my local mechanic to take a look.
